I am a complete rts noob. I could download dawn or war or company of heros from steam right now. They both sound cool as hell. Which one should I get?

Command and Conquer series is perfect for newbies.

Dawn of War is pretty easy. Company of Heroes, however - that's punishing.

Just get CoH now!

DoW is good, but CoH is much better, especially if you like the WWII setting. I think it and the exp. are 30 on steam.

WiC is good also. It's multiplayer is kinda unbalanced though and very dependent on teamwork. It's a lot of unit management.

Supreme Commander is good if you have the rig. Not so much unit management, but economy is a huge part of if you win or lose.

For a newbie I'd recommend World in Conflict. It's pretty basic for a strategy game and it's a lot of fun. Company of Heroes isn't what I'd recommend for an RTS newb. As for the multiplayer, when I played it pre-expansion I found it difficult to get a good game going. I haven't played it recently so I'm not too sure.

Not really. Company of Heroes was my second RTS game (first was Seven Kingdoms II: The Fryhtan Wars) and I had no problem getting used to it. I would say it didn't take me more than 5 minutes to figure everything out. I personally haven't played Dawn of War, so I can't comment, but I will say Company of Heroes is great. Finished the campaign and loved it, and I also heard the multiplayer is really good (haven't really played it myself). I played the demo for World in Conflict and I love it. Multiplayer is fun too and I love the skirmish mode with bots.
