Release date for D3

Does anyone know the release date? I am a little confused because they said D3 was in production for 5 years and then i saw that the release date was 12-31-08 but then i saw posts that they didnt know when it was coming out. So if anyone could help me that would be awesome.

for a moment i thought "doom3?!"

but i think it will be a LONG while before diablo3 comes out. only once blizzard has finished trickling out the info on the classes/gameply/multiplayer etc can we then even THINK about a release date

I thought SC2 was coming out this year? I recall Blizzard making a estimate around December 2008...Kev0rk

Nah, that date is just being used as a place-holder by retail stores like GameStop.
