I've never gotten a virus with Windows 7 + MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). The biggest defence you have against viruses is yourself. If you go looking for them, you'll get them.

+1 for Norton 360 I had Avast Internet security but it was a nigthmare using it with win 8, totally incompatible. Took Jiggly's advice and went with Norton, totally satisfied now. That said I still use Avast on my win 7 laptop and swear by it had it not been for the win 8 compatibility issues.

yeah i'm using norton on my desktop, not that i ever get viruses. It literally took 30 seconds to install, and it didn't bug me at all, which was surprising. My win8 laptops and all win8 machines just use MSE though, since it comes with the OS and it integrates really nicely.

Norton 360 is horrible compared to Norton Internet Security, But it has been a few years since I made the switch

I use Comodo Internet security for Defense+, sandbox, and firewall and Panda Cloud for antivirus.

In browser I use AdBlock Plus, Web of Trust, and NoScript.

I use Zonealarm Extreme Security but really the Internet Suite is more than enough, just be careful what you download and keep everything updated and you'll be fine. Also yeah Norton 360 was about as useful as a bag of onions at being an anti-virus. The Norton Internet Suite is one of the quickest and efficient suites out there, definitely something I recommend for laptops or low spec PC's. Anyway my personal choice is ZA Internet Suite + malware Bytes + Common Sense = Good enough.

I like zonelarm for a firewall and MSE for antivirus, both are extremely low resource and unintrusive.

I've been using Avira, probably gonna switch soon since I have the free version and get the occasional ad from it, not really a problem but eh. One time I had it off for like 2 months, didn't even notice it. Viruses aren't a big deal unless you have no idea how to internet

Avira detects a lot of false positives though. It was annoying.

Well sh*t, I thought it was good. I'm changing to ZoneAlarm. That's free, and gets a pretty good score on that test.

Just cleared 4 viruses off a laptop with norton on, norton was running like crap as well. If you're gonna pay, don't go norton.

I'm happy with MSE and occasional scans with malwarebytes.
