Operation Flashpoint, Not really a WWII game rather then a ficional one about the Cold War.
It's pretty difficult and realistic in therms that it takes usually one shot to kill you.

Call of Duty is about as realistic as a GI Joe cartoon. It's crap.

Try one of the following:

WWII Online

Hidden and Dangerous 2

Red Orchestra

It's eight years since I played it, but I remember Sudden Strike as being a realistic game - and a pretty good one, too.

World War 2 Online: Battleground Europe.

You can't get much more realistic than that (don't be put off by the dated graphics).

Yeah, this looks pretty realistic. (Out at the end of the month.)

Also, CoH, though that's not FPS.

Depends on what you want to do?

On Land - "Brothers in Arms" Series is the most "realistic" in that you fire and supress and have to have keen situational awareness to go along with your twitch skills. You can't win this game by jumping up and down and rushing in.

On Sea - Silent Hunter 3 or 4 - With the Grey Wolves Expansion Pack you can't do any better.

In the Air - IL2 Sturmovik 1946 - This pulls the entire IL2 universe together in one neat package. Get you a decent joystick, rudder pedals and TrackIR 4 and you're in business. Online component is fabulous.

COH????? COH?!?!?! are you serious? Have you played that game? Soliders survive tank shells, artillery shells AND raining MG fire on a regular basis. CoH is as relaistic as Battlefield Heroes.

Anyway, back to logic, BIA:HH is looking good, Red Orchestra is great as well.

No, no it;s not. Sad thing is, people are actually suggesting things like Company of Heroes and Panzer Elite Action.

As for Brothers in Arms: HH. I don't hold out much hope after watching the preview videos. Ridiculous conventions like 3rd person peek views, accurate and sustained fire from an MG-42 held at the hip, and the retarded "oh you've been shot! Well, have a little lie down behind this wall and you'll be fine!" conventions lead me to believe it'll be a disappointment.

I suggest you build a time machine, set the date to June 6th, 1944, And get on a boat headed to Omaha Beach. This would probably be the best choice, and most realistic option avalible.

lol I was just waiting for a response like that :P.

A realistic game would be Project Reality (not WW2 though) which is a mod for bf2 but its really realistic and fun to play.

The only real option, assuming that you want a shooter, is Red Orchestra:

1.There is no crosshair.

2. Your weapon drifts off-center as you move or look.

3. Correct shell ballistics (rounds bounce off tanks at extreme angles) combined with correct damage modeling on tanks makes mechanized warfare a blast.

4. Tons of weapons from both sides, including bolt-action rifles on which you manually work the bolt.

5. Weapon accuracy is affected not only by your stance, but whether or not your weapon is supported by an object.

6. Your vision does not zoom-in when you go into iron sights.

There's a lot more, but those are the things that stand-out. It's the easily the most realistic shooter out there, from any era.

Day Of Defeat Source (Multiplayer) Def a great WWII game, includes some historic battlegrounds and is realistic.

Its also not as immature as CS... You dont get the 14 year olds swearing at nothing and doing stupid things.

Depends on who you play with, it can be tactical. Some players do decide to group up (having a .30, sniper, thompson in the group and then getting to a flag)

I hope the community would release mods to "fix" those problems.

World War 2 Online: Battlefield Europe does all that except that your vision does zoom in slightly when you aim through the iron sights (meant to simulate you focusing all your attention on it).

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway. biggest_loser
This. BiA was a game that was developed by alongside real WW2 vets and is based on their experiences. A bit like Band of Brothers of the gaming world. The only problem that I found is that it is very linear and often forces you into one tactic. But it is very realistic in that your squad will die pretty instantly if you don't find cover and put down suppressing fire to move about.

As in strategy games or shooters? Are you looking for high degrees of actual simulation and realism? Combat Mission series, Theatre of War series and the Close Combat series. Shooter wise Red Orchestra 1 and 2 are solid, unless you're looking for the age old WW2 Online (now Battleground Europe), or the underrated Hidden and Dangerous games (the second holds up far better). Worf101 made some great vehicle based sim suggestions, I'd add Panzer Elite (the original) to it. Otherwise if you want a mix of authenticity with hollywood antics then you've got the Men of War games, Brothers in Arms, Company of Heroes, Codename Panzers and so on. **** dead thread being resurrected, might as well post what I typed.
