When I type my usernam and password to play online it says Operation failed. What's wrong? HELP HELP PLEASE

Is this game worth playing single player wise??? I might pick it up on the 15th when I go to get my PS3 copy of MLB 07 the show...since I just built a new PC and can handle it now.
