according to a report on techpowerup amd is gonna unlock several professional features the for radeon VII that were exclusive to their radeon pro series cards this includes access to ProRender (amd ray tracing). this will be done by simply adding the radeon VII gpu to the driver suite for their pro cards.

well now, this certainly makes things interesting, the question is, how would the card perform on a game that has amd pro render, hopefully amd gaming partners like bethesda and ubi will have an answer soon.

AMD Vega 2 card is as good as their CPUs and as always better for computing rather than made for pure gaming, maybe Ryzen 3000 will change that.

As for ray tracing feature it's still a newcomer so I'd wait a series or two before buying a card that features it.

To implement Volta style DXR support, AMDs needs to do the following

1. Create shader software BVH search and triangle intersect test that runs on GPUs

2. Use VII's DirectML for de-noise for low light bounce count real time ray-tracing results.

It's missing de-noise step as per http://cgicoffee.com/blog/2018/03/what-is-nvidia-rtx-directx-dxr

NVIDIA combines DLSS de-noise processing with ray-tracing.

AMD confirms DirectML support for VII. DirectML is important as the alternative to DLSS.
