sounds like something in the critical windows files is pretty messed up. I would honestly suggest a wipe and reinstall of your OS. Backup your files to an external first. Alternately you could try running a windows recovery disc which can find and replaced messed up windows files. http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=windows+recovery+disk&aq=1&aqi=g10&oq=windows+recover&fp=292ac4760832f3c4

Why don't you backup your PC by using Norton Ghost? Or not, use a Windows CD to repair your system. Enjoy!

Why use Norton Ghost lol? Windows 7 comes with it's own HDD imaging software in the OS.

So I take it you use mac or linux then? Kind of hard to use a windows platform without windows explorer.

Boot from the disk and a repair option should come up.
