Z87 and 4770K unless you get a good deal on that 3770K and Z87 mobo. Otherwise I think it looks good.

We could all sit here and pick at it from our own preference, but simply you have a nice powerful system there that will serve you real good...and it has some great overclocking potential too the

MonsieurX is right though you can get 1TB hard drives for only a few dollars more than a 500GB

This may be a good list of the the same or similar price for a bit less. There are a few improvements on the cpu, ram, storage, and the motherboard, and some other parts like the gpu are cheaper for pretty much the same thing.

LINKY

EDIT: revised the list with a 1TB drive

Thanks a bunch for the input so far! Anyone know what the best monitor brand is these days? The one I am using now is an old viewsonic.

Would you be looking for a monitor strictly for gaming (high response time, frequency), or are you looking for color accuracy, contrast, viewing angles, etc. for activities such as photo/video editing?

There are some nice cheaper ($250ish) ASUS 24" monitors that offer 144Hz for gaming, but IPS displays such as those from DELL would be better for the image reproduction; however, their response times often suffer (instead of 1ms response from the ASUS, you may be stuck with 7ms or more, which could lead to frame lag in games).

Mostly for gaming, I do a bit of video editing but gaming would be a priority so I wouldn't mind suffering a bit on the editing side as long as the gaming experience was good.

@Jorbit: This may be your best bet right now. I could have sworn it was about $220-240 just about a week ago, so if you wait a bit, the prices may come down $30 or so, though even at it's current price it still seems like a pretty good deal considering the specifications.

Well, I tried to keep it a bit under. There's not much I could change that would much too much of a difference since the price differences among the upper end only become far greater for relatively minimal differences:

Here you go!

Since you don't seem to need a case, windows, or peripherals, I was able to bump the build up to a GTX 780. The main difference that will be important in future games will be that 384-bit bus, especially if you SLI further down the line. If you'd want a bit more power now though, for a just a little more, you could technically purchase SLI 760 4GB cards; however, you may be limited by that slower 256-bit bus. The up-side though is that SLI 760s trade blows with the 780 ti, which is quite a bit above budget. As stated numerous times before though, in more recent demanding games, the 780 ti outperforms the SLI 760s by roughly 4%, but in older games (assuming pre-2012) and DX9 games, the SLI 760s outperform the 780 ti by a sturdy ~30%.

Here is a build option for you, all under $1400 , If you need an OS then your still under budget limit.

i5 4670k

Hyper 212+ EVO

16gb DDR3

Z87

750w PSU

GTX 770

Corsair 400r

1tb HDD

Bluray Drive

ASUS IPS 24"

@Jorbit: Also, I'd suggest this case instead of the RAIDMAX, as the Corsair has better airflow, removable HDD cages, supports US3 3.0, and has a bit more watercooling options if you were to decide on something like that later on. It also comes to be about $1-2 cheaper :P.

Question... Why are you selecting mediocre parts and options?

Case is meh, psu is meh and why spend $55 for a 500gb when you can spend 60 and get a 1tb, I would suggest to look at the build I posted much better quality overall. Also as for the i7 its not worth it if the programs you using dont support HT because if they only support 1-4 threads an i5 will provide 98% the processing power and if you Overclock that i5 to at least 4ghz you dont have to worry about a thing.

Wont be a native DX 12 gpu until next year, also All direct x 11 gpu's will see direct x 12 support.... Its not introducing new shader model as far as we know.

Na, Direct x 10 introduced new features over 9, but the lack of support because of Vista requirement and lack of dx10 hardware on consoles for multiplats made 10 just spin in circles. Now the point of 12 is lowering the cpu overhead and streamlining direct x in general.

Heh, wow. After shaving off the $100 from the i7 to the i5 (since this is a game-centric build), you sure beefed everything else quite nicely!

Thanks, you can easy downgrade into 760 SLI and add 250Gb SSD, But I prefer graphics quality over years over shorten loading times =)
