Im going to be seeling my computer and i need to scramble the hard drive to protect some information that will be left behind. So if anyone knows what im talking about could you refer me to a free ware program that i can use to boot up on a formated HDrive and scramble it? Thanks.

Darik's Boot and Nuke seems the biz. Also known as DBAN.

So all i have to do is format the HD, and run DBAN from a cd? How long does it take and do i just run the process once?

Just run DBAN and it'll take care of it for you. It can take a while, depending which mode you choose. I think the standard setting wipes your drive 3 times which is supposed to be sufficient.

I used that on a 20GB HDD. Took 1-2 hours as far as I remember. Fairly slow system though. Make sure you disconnect any other drives before using it though.

Even after DBAN you can still manually pull information off the platter with a magnetic imaging reader. The only thing you can really do about it is sell everything but the HDD ( which is what i always do ).
