I'm thinking of buying a new processor to support my GPU, and I want to know if the difference will be noticeable or not, so I wont spend money for nothing..

the processor I intend to buy : AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ AM2 ( It has to be AM2)

Can you advice me on what to do?

My rig:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+ AM2

Graphics Card: Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MB

RAM: 1 Gig

Motherboard: M2N-E

ok that AMD 6000+ is really good I put it in a computer I made works AWSOME runs at the same total speed as Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 Ghz , which means ( 9.00Ghz Total ) , its a big jump from the 4600+ so yes you will see a good difference nowif your running VISTA I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you get at least 2GB cause the OS in idle , depending on which version , takes up alot of ram I know hiome premium in idle take anywhere from 502MB to 712MB of RAM so if you try to play a game it really holds you back , Also another thing How much power does your Power supply put out ? for anything in your computer to work at its best or to push it beyond what the factory says you need lots of power like 850 watts or more would be great.

You dont really need 850 watts but its a good number and you don't really have to worry about things not being fully powered you could probably make do with a 600 watt power supply but still its always nice to have lots of extra power.

also forgot to mention if you get a bigger power supply you should see a performance increase in the computer in general , as in CPU , GPU , everything.

Min is never enough , its just what it is ... Min as in just enough to get it working not to get it working full blast.

400w is never enough for a card like 8800GTS. However, 600w enermax or something, is more than enough, even 540.

The6000+ is about 20-25% faster than your current CPU. Not worth it IMO.

Show me some benchmarks where you see a 50% increase.

AMD Athlon 64 x2 4600+ 2.4 Ghz

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103749

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.0 Ghz

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773

when ever I run nzone.com tests it always tells me the 6000+ reads a total speed of 9.00Ghz ( which is the same as this Intel Quad cores total speed when I do nzone tests with it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017 )

as for the 2.4ghz one I don't know what it says the total speed is , try and test it , http://www.nzone.com

But you are good with what you got , unless you really want a faster CPU.

lol the 6000 may be fast for an amd chip, but most core 2's destroy any amd cpu, Intel owns amd now :)
