I'm gonna upgrade my GPU first on my PC upgrade project but want to start planning ahead on my next upgrade. I know with the GPU i'm getting which is the EVGA 9800 GTX+ 512 will bottle neck my current CPU: AMD Athlon X2 Dual 4600+, but also i'm only running on 2 GB of RAM which isn't bad. So should I go ahead and just get my CPU upgrade over with, I do want to get the AMD dual 6000+ CPU when I do upgrade but the RAM upgrade to 4GB will be easier on my wallet from just getting the GPU but I also want to go with the better upgrade to get my PC to optimized gaming specs.

So with a little assistance from you guys and gals out there which do you recommend I upgrade next?

once I get my GPU which I know i'll be getting this will be my systems specs listed below:

AMD Athlon X2 Dual 4600+ (After upgrade: AMD Athlon X2 Dual 6000+)

2GB RAM DDR2 800 (6400) (After upgrade: 4GB RAM DDR2 800 (6400)

EVGA nvidia 9800 GTX+ 512, 256bit

450W PSU (After upgrade and last on upgrade list: 600W PSU)

Dual booting Windows XP 64bit, Windows 7RC 64-bit

and if your wondering why i'm not going into the whole Quad Core Phenoms, my current MOBO doesn't support that CPU and i'm just gonna pretty much Max what I can with what I got at the time being.

Thanks!

Cpu would be the best upgrade for performance, But if you find some ram for like 10 dollars, why not get both?

been lookin into some decently priced RAM on newegg and for 4GB - (2 - 2gig sticks) would throw me for roughtly 70 bucks. CPU will put me at just over 100 for the AMD dual 6000+.

Auh tho i think he is looking at a specific brand. like for instance i don't want to run two different kinds of ram at once anymore because i ran into to many problems, like bsod doing that >.< I find its better not to mix ram. But you won't always get problems....In some cases i'd recommend it if the ram is like 10 dollars, to just try it.

What motherboard do you have? Why not get a phenom II? The 550 was just released and isn't a bad deal at all.

I defiantly say CPU, that will bring the boost in games and general programs. Ram would be better for video editing and alike and even a good cpu is needed above the ram. I suggest ram second, cpu is always more important.

CPU it is then, after i let my budget heal from the GPU upgrade i'll save up for the CPU.

Thanks for all the help.
