So, I'm going to need a laptop for school soon, and I want one that can play games decently. I do have a decent desktop already, so I don't really need something completely amazing. That being said, I am considering buying this one right now. What do you guys think? Any opinions or advice would be appreciated.

Get this instead. It's just 40 dollars more, but it's well worth it if you're planning on gaming on it due to the better video card.

Why do you want to use a laptop for gaming if you have a desktop? Here's an idea, spend half of your budget upgrading your desktop and the other half on a cheap laptop.

Will it be able to run current games well? Like Battlefield 3 or Skyrim at medium detail and good FPS?

Check this out. Scroll to the bottom and check out the game benchmarks. The GT540M is a fairly strong video card, and could probably play both those games.

@ravenguard90: I dislike Lenovo's aesthetics. The GT540M is more than powerful enough for my needs (gaming during breaks/****and Blu-Ray movies) in any case. Also, I probably won't buy now but wait for a sale. The good thing is that laptop is in stock at my local store. I might consider it depending on how expensive shipping is.

@blakostructor: Gaming in between/during cl@sses, while I'm not at home, LAN, etc. I might spend a bit less and just go for a Llano based system though. Anyone know any good ones for.

The 540m sucks, and I think a gaming laptop is a huge waste if you have a desktop. Trust me youll barely use it.

If you want to play games stay away from the optimus laptops... GTX560 minimum, it's what I got in my np8130 and it rox. Leagues better than a gt555
