I'm building my first pc with my cousins help. He picked out the parts and I'm just looking for a second opinion on my parts. I couldn't find much online about comparability of my CPU and GPU.

I have a AMD FX8350 cpu and a EVGA gtx 1060 sc.

Anyone have any thoughts on comparability and performance with this combination?

I mean... it should be fine. Id definitely go with a different processor though. i5's and i7's are IMO, just so much more superior to anything AMD has done ( i have not toyed with Rizen's) and you can get good i5's for cheap now.

@jdc6305: I can't really recommend that processor, the Pile driver architecture is old, and horribly dated.

Ryzen CPUs are good, but it looks like they would be out of the budget.

I would suggest the core i3 7100 instead. It's a dual core, but it does at least have hyper-threading, and it literally walks all over the FX8350 in gaming.

I haven't purchased the mother board yet and the AMD was fairly cheap. I'm not too worried about cost. Would anything in the Intel i5 category work well with this card?

@jdc6305: So you have the CPU already?

Yeah I have the AMD FX8350 but no mother board yet. I also have the GPU. I was thinking of just scrapping the plans of AMD and purchasing a i5. If it means less problems down the road.

@jdc6305: Can the CPU be returned/exchanged?

If so do it, then give us a rough budget and we can help.

I'd replace that GTX 1060 with an RX 580, they both cost the same and performance is similar on DX11 however RX 580 utterly rapes GTX 1060 in DX 12 plus it has more VRAM.

Get R5 1600 with any B350 mobo of your choice OR get an i5-7500 with any B250 mobo of your choice. Both of these CPU's will perform well in gaming while still being a decent price.

As for GPU GTX 1060 6GB & RX 580 8GB should get you 60fps in most games @ 1080p Ultra settings (they perform about equally). If you want to be future proof then GTX 1070 is the card for you.

No it doesn't. The 1060 also ocs a good bit while the 580 you can rarely get more than 20mhz out of. With that said they're both good options, just pick based on whatever games you play.

The fx8350 is going to hold you back by quite a bit op, get a ryzen 1600 if you can.

II know you already have the CPU but investing money into a dead and SLOW socket is a bad idea. I would get a Ryzen 5 1600x or i5 7600K what ever is cheaper and the same goes for GPU get a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB.

USB 3.1, USB C, M.2. drives lots of SATA 3 and DDR4 are the NOW... So don't invest in past technology.
