Hi, I recently decided that i wanted to get a new PC that will last me a while for around $2000. Here are my specs, please leave feedback on any changes or good choices.

MOBO: Nvidia nforce 790i ULTRA SLI

GPU: BFG 8800 GT 1GB (probably go sli)

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x2GB (not sure whether i should get 2GB of DDR3 instead)

HDD: Westgate 250GB

CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHZ

Case: Antec 900

Also i havent calculated the prices yet but will alll this land me around $2000? The rest on the componenets i will get later on such as speakers headset etc...

Cheers

Umm no not even close...Bestbuy is the BIGGEST ripooff for poc components...So i really do hope you arent being serious.

Well It depends on what you need exactly. And if your going to build or buy prebuilt.

Wow bigger ripoff, infact is bigger then Alienware's ripoff. If i were you I'd go on Newegg.com, or CyberpowerPc.com and get one from there. You'll get a better Pc for better price. For 2000 you can get a computer that will run 2x better then that one.

This is just a rough estimate but you should be able to get all the parts you listed off of www.newegg.com for around $950 to $1495. Several of the parts have multiple versions (eg. video card) and manufacturers. This will affect the final price.

Who is Westgate? I've never heard of them. Since the hard drive is where all your data is stored a well know manufacturer might be a better choice. Western Digital drives have always served me well.

The type of memory you buy will depend on the motherboard. No single motherboard supports all types of memory. Look and see what kind of memory the motherboard supports. Some companies will supply a list of memory they have tested on the motherboard. Choose from that list.

Don't forget the power supply and DVD drive. I've been using Plextor drives for years and have no complaints.

This is only my second pc so does anyone recommend a brand for the graphics card. I have changed my mind and will either get the geforce 280 gtx or 9800 GTX.

oh i just noticed you updated. well, i don't know much about quad cores, but i'm guessing if they make faster quad cores you could definitely go with a faster one and stay in your price range.

Why would you get the most expensive mobo and get ONE 8800gt to go with it. Either get 3 8800GT's or whatever other card or a cheaper mobo that is not so excessive of your needs.

If you're from Australia, I don't think Newegg will ship it here (I say here because I'm Australian) and Tigerdirect might do it at a high cost.

I suggest you look at places like MSY, CentreCom, Aus PC Market, PC Case Gear and more here.

Nice parts, but why only an 8800GT if you plan to be doing some serious gaming?

What resolution do you plan to play on?
