So Tax time has come and with it come the funds to build a new rig. My old rig with an 8800gts is all outdated and in need of an upgrade, so I will be needing everything except for the monitor and m/kb. Now after looking through all of my options I have decided to go with a full AMD build so that I can get the most bang for my buck.

I would like to keep this build under $1000, so could someone give me a list of the best parts for my build?

Edit: Just wanted to note that I will be needing the os so be sure to include that in the final price. Thanks!

I just looked all those parts up on New Egg and the total came up to around $1200. Would I be able to find better prices on Amazon or another site? I would really like to stay under $1K. Also there is a Microcenter store that is 2 1/2 hours away from me in Chicago, would it be worth the drive up there for parts?

pretty tight to fit a 7970 in a $1000 build. The cheapest would be around $1100. The fx-8320 is around $180, not $160 as you claim. Then a 7970 costs around $400. 7950 would fit his budget better.

That looks like a great build, unless anyone can find a better set of parts I think I'll go with that. Thanks.

I just realized I forgot to include an optical drive but those only cost like $15-20. I currently use an MSI 6950 Twin Frozr and added cooling is great. My card stays ~10C cooler than my buddies' 6950.

Its cool, I had actually just bought a new cd/dvd burner for my old build a few months back so I can just move it over to the new one.

You can probably shave off the cost if you buy from a store that price matches. In Canada I use Shopbot for computer components and then have a local store price match.

I would step the CPU up to the FX-8350. Going with a last-gen CPU will hurt you down the road, especially with AMD.

yeah, I would go with an fx-8320 instead of the fx-8150 and then overclock it as far as it can go. I would also recommend an intel build over the AMD build since its not much more expensive. Anyhow the fx-8320 will last as long as an i5 will, maybe longer since it is an octa core cpu and games are being designed to take advantages of more and more cores. Don't get the fx-8150, get the fx-8320, it is the same price but is based on AMD's newer architecture which performs slightly better. Just make sure to overclock the cpu as far as it can go.

I'd pick a different case, HAF are ugly, but obviously case is a more personal thing.

I chose that one because it is a pretty good case and isn't that expensive. I had an Antec case that was $100 but that put me above the $1000 mark

The Cm HAF 912 is a good case that would give him very good cooling, cable mgmt and some room to expand a bit.

If he wanted to save a few bucks, Newegg has a special on this case (Rosewill Challenger) that would work well also http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

But I think the CM case would serve all around better. Also I would look for a bit better PS, That Corsair model isn't the best for a gaming machine, so a few extra dollars in that area might be wise. Last the FX-8320 I believe is the same price as the FX-8150 ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285

Over all a good AMD build for the money.

Yo, I'll give you some advice. Just wait a few months until the new GPU chipsets are released and just use your current GPU in your new rig until then...I'm sure it won't kill you.

I wanted to get 7 because Ive heard that there have been some problems playing vista/xp era games on Windows 8. The metro UI doesnt seem as bad as everyone makes it out to be, so if I could find it ALOT cheaper, I would get it over 7.

Have you personally had any problems playing older games on it? I am all for Windows 8, I just don't want to be left with some broken games that I cant play.

Hi TC didn't you mention you live near a micro center ? if it not too far drive there often unbeatble CPU / MOBO combo deal as last time i checked some combo deal from newegg.com they where still 50$ behind This place Deal for a mobo / cpu of same quality
http://microcenter.com/site/products/amd_bundles.aspx

however it hard to beat newegg.com for Power supply & GPU deal after MIR & IR But Fry's worth a look too sometime according friend's don't live there so i can only rely on wut i read on the net lol

Window 8 is just an awful more complex User Interface (UI) but it kind of the same as Window 7 Expect few game even with new Driver Run with less FPS like up to 1-2FPS less in some title anyhow some game like Indie Game Released on Steam might have issue With Window 8 as I read in my game hub's but there probably problem soon fixed's On Dev's end

Window 8 Doesn't have a Start menu and that a Heresy but it can be Fix With Free Solution's To Get it Back Altought it might have some bug at least it there only advatange of window 8 so far is that if there some cool window's application you want for $$$ and Much Faster bootime for SSD and that you can disable / enable lot of service's without reboot the OS

http://www.sitepoint.com/windows-8-review-3/

so far since in lot of benchmark window 8's is like missing Performance and metro app forced's im not recommending window 8 : might be better with window 9 better luck next time Microsoft :P
