Which would you guys recommend for competitive multiplayer play? I was an avid cs player back in the day and lately I've been wanting to get back into the competitive gaming scene. I know how source plays, but how is modern warfare 2? I've heard that the whole IWnet server setup hurts the game really bad but how is the core gameplay? I will always love cs:s but if modern warfare 2's gameplay is fresh enough, I don't think I'll mind the lack of dedicated servers. Well...maybe

As Much as I like CSS I'm going to have to go with MW2. This is considering the fact I'm comparing MW2 to Vanilla CSS without any of those special mods.

I thought you said you never played MW2 (in the other thread)? Can't say something you haven't played is better.

It's because the multiplayer in MW2 is similar to the game I played, MW1.

Modern Warfare 2 is just a killfest with all those killstreaks. Counter-Strike: Source is way better for competitive play. Way better latency with dedicated servers, customizable game settings, and much more skill-based gameplay.

I like MW2 but no skill needed in that game. All you need is some nice perks and the knowledge that campers/snipers never win and only screw their team in the end.

Modern Warfare 2 is probably the easiest First Person Shooter I've ever played, plus with the lack of dedicated servers and mods you can pretty much say goodbye to any serious form of competitive gaming. I'll go with Counter Strike Source.

mw2 is a pretty fun game, i mess around with the mp quite a bit. But CS:S is much superior in terms of gameplay and when you insist on it being competitive mw2 doesn't even come into contention imo. I'd be curious to see if Valve decided to go for a level up system in the next counter-strike

It's extremely different, because the gameplay was changed, I personally hate the gameplay in MW 2, multiplayer works decently, but the gameplay... Anyway. MW 2 wasn't made to be competitive, so CS: S hands down.

Not on VAC servers, it's just that they are that good, CS:S players mostly play CS, all day long so yeah ;).

Competitive? Easily CSS. I'm surprised this is even up for debate. The lack of dedicated servers in MW2 turned off a lot of clans.
