There are tons of games based on movies, but most of them suck. They are made just to cash in on the movies' success. But there are a few good movies that could be turned into awesome games:

28 Days Later

300

Inglourious Basterds

Sin City

Jacob's Ladder

Kung fu(2004)

The Departed(2006)

The Boondock Saints(1999)

Se7en(1995)

Zombieland(2009)

Shaun of the Dead(2004)

Children of Men(2006)

The Game(1997)

In Bruges(2008)

Shoot 'Em Up(2007)

So thats about it. Give me more suggestions, comment on mine.

Uwe Boll's Rampage (2009) would make a great game. A controversial one, but also a great one to all people hungry for killing :P

John Carter has a lot of potential. Mars has multiple races and factions all over the planet, and lots of lore. You could make a good RTS out of that, or a 3rd person action game where you fight as John Carter.

The Chronicles of Riddick franchise can be expanded further, and more games can come out beyond just escaping from a prison. They already established multiple planets, nations, a few alien races. You could make a space combat sim, or something the X series. Maybe an RTS like Homeworld or Star Wars Empire at War.

Stargate always had potential for great games. It could be a lot like X-Com. Manage your base like X-Com. Equip your teams for missions through the Stargate. Go on various missions, to gain technology, explore, destroy Gould bases, and rescue prisoners. A tactical map like X-Com or Fallout Tactics would be great for missions.

It's called Diablo 3. You just pound and pound and pound until you get an explosive happy ending.

I'm thinking a good "Star Trek" game. I mean c'mon! How hard could it be? Elite Force was an exception. It was pretty darn cool, but that was a decade ago!

Movies that would make great games?

None.

But making great games based on the movie universes is still possible, like plenty of Star Wars games (Knights of The Old Republic would be a good example). Plenty of awesome Star Wars games, but I'm pretty sure they all revolve around something that happens before the movies, or during the movies but not shown in the movies.

However even if you are talking about making games based on the universes of the movies, I'm extremely puzzled by some choices, like In Bruges, and Zombieland. I mean what incentive is there for anyone to make a game based on a film that has very generic zombie apocalypse, instead of just making a light hearted zombie action game not based on any movie. Making a game based on Zombieland would basically just scream: "THIS GAME IS GOING TO FAIL HARD!", so just making an original zombie game would seem like a much better idea. In Bruges is a great movie, and Zombieland is a decent movie too, but I can't think of any good reason to make a game based on them. It would be interesting to hear some kind of further explanation of why you think it's such a great idea to make games based on those particular movies you mentioned.

Of course I was talking about using the movie's universe, because trying to follow the plot of the movie rarely works. Why Zombieland? Well maybe because I like zombie games so much and I thought having a free roaming zombie game where you can drive cars, wander through the cities and enjoy good humor sounds like a good idea for a game. And I wasn't thinking about whether it would be more logical just to make a different game with a similar gameplay. I just thought what kind of game could they make from it and would I play it. In bruges - imagine if you take a role of a hitman (probably someone who wasn't in the movie, but somewhat related) and you are assigned to carry out a hits, you travel through cities and countries. Basically it would be GTA + Hitman. I don't know if that explains my choices.

JOHN CARTER. After reading the books (The John Carter of Mars Trilogy) and watching the Disney Movie (which isn't as bad as critics say it is), I believe the world would make a great MMO.

Ironman would be sick if you could design your armor and play through when he was abducted in the movie. Obviously a game was already made about it, but it just sucked. I also just recently read And Then There Were None and just loved it. I think a great game could be made out of that. A mystery type game similar to Heavy Rain. If anything it would be a great arcade game to play through.

all movies make horrible games. i need only cite almost ever movie to videogame weve ever had to cement this reality.

thor

green lantern

transformers 2009, 2010, 2011

harry potter franchised games

gijoe franchised games

the bourne series franchised games

the matrix franchised games

eragon

wanted

spiderman movie franchised games (though spiderman 1 wasnt "that bad")

im on a roll here you want more examples?

the only decent movie - games have been LOTR related and those had to follow the book more than the movies. as a result i cant condone any movie - game compliments at all in recent memory. they folks want the games to compliment the movies and as a result their budgets suck, their talent tends to be 2nd rate on the development team and finally the deadlines and goals tend to be rushed and ham-fisted.

as much as they would be awesome the videogame industry doesnt work at the same pace as the videogame industry. and as a result they wont get very close to one another without someone releasing a game long after the fact which would completely ruin the intent of making the game in the first place.

as a result movie tie-in games will always be mediocre <-> bad and nothing will change that beyond movies getting delayed releases in the area of months

There are twelve books about Barsoom, although John Carter doesn't feature in all of them. Nevertheless, I recommend reading them all. My favourites were Thuvia, Maid Of Mars, and The Chessmen Of Mars.

I do think that the setting of Barsoom would translate well to a free-roam RPG, similar in scope to Skyrim. There are a few potential playable races, a good number of cities and ancient ruins to explore, and a good variety of strange and hostile creatures roaming the planet.

I'd love to see an RPG that draws on the world Edgar Rice Burroughs created. I'm also a fan of his Venus series, and Pellucidar series of novels.

I've always thought that Spider-Man would be an awesome character for a game if some serious thought and time went into development.

The xXx movie with Vin Diesel. It's pretty much James Bond with a punk skateboarder style. Set it in an open world Ukraine, have all the pimped out cars with guns and stuff in them, it could be fun.

Men in Black- It would basically be like LA Noire but with aliens and future weapons. If they can't get the MiB license, then X-Files and Fringe could make great investigative action games involving the paranormal, though the suits and weapons make MiB a neater prospect. It wouldn't be directly based off the movies, but have its own story set between or after any of the films. It could even be based off the comics and add in a extra layer of dark violence and supernatural elements.

Drive- Rockstar could do this one, a movie focusing on the Driver and his past and moments where he is a getaway driver, maybe also explaining his penchant for violence. Like The Warriors game, it could be 70% prequel, 30% set during the movie.

World War Z- Though just an excuse to be ANOTHER zombie game, the licensing and world behind it would help a lot, and I just want a zombie survival game done right for once dammit. I mean, I love Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead, but they aren't the survival horror scavenging games we all wish for.

Because Sucker Punch is a disaster and everything related to it is forever tainted.

For me the visuals are the most important part of a movie and yet I hate Sucker Punch. It was basically career suicide for Snyder, not sure how he got the Superman job...

I think as new movies go, John Carter has promise, a good action game with good free flowing combat physics would be entertaining. For those who love good chinese movies, The Legend of the Seven Swords series that was a huge hit in China, could be really fun. It's been a long time since a really good, Kung-fu styled game was developed, involving authentic weapons, and styles of combat.

The Fantastic 4 is the grat film for making the game. All the charchter in this film are well suited for developing the games. i think if game would made based on that then it has several interesting rounds which would be very nice for playing.

Surreal survival horror maybe? It could be similar to Alan Wake.
