Whats the most intense game or part of a game you've played? For me, it was during the Russian campaign of Call of Duty 2 when you have to withstand the German charge and then charge recklessly. The atmosphere was awesome, with bullets wizzing by and people shouting and even that officer with his whistle.

Probably Call of Cthuhlu: Dark Corners of the Earth - the 'chase' sequences are brilliantly intense.

The Oddworld games and the Thief games should also get a mention here.

This may sound funny, but I thought Trackmania Nations was quite intense (not gore, just that rush of adrenaline feeling). Going around the loops started to make me feel nauseous after awhile.

For me it was COD: United Offence.

The mission where americans have to capture the german HQ and then hold it and right after that you go to the british side and are a gunner for a bomber (shooting planes left and right, putting out fires before you blow up while being shot at.)

No other game can make me as angry or as happy as this game.  In addition, my heartrate actually goes way up when I play this game from constant surges of adrenaline.

totally

beign pushed back to your base by massed infantry, brutal battles happening all over the screen as guys are dismembered and blown apart, you're certain you can't hold out, but your men continue to fight and die amidst shouts of for the Emperor! and then, against all odds, a droid rumbles out of your tank factory and singlehandedly slaughters all of the enemy infantry

dawn of war is the embodiment of intensity

Those cop pursuits in Need for Speed Most Wanted got rather intense at the higher heat levels... Also, I got Resident Evil 4 (for PC) recently and there's some intense moment at that as well...

I'd probably have to say CS:S and CS really get me going esepecially if you are the last one left against many.

Otherwise, Doom III was pretty disturbing but not necessarily intense

I agree with these, and I'll also say Republic Commando, and the Max Payne games. There's barely a dull moment in any of them - just bullets, explosions and action all around, all the time.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory's multiplayer. No other game has made me swear, want to throw out the monitor, and punch the desk as much as it did. Guess that's why it's the #1 game on my Xfire list with 552 hours. The amount of adrenaline you get in that game is just frickin huge, not to mention it feels so good after you win, as the game requires great teamwork and timing.

I thought the HL2 series had GREAT athmosphere but for intensity, I would go for COD2. COD2 with speakers ans subwoofer turned all the way up = windows blown out. Another intense game is when you're engaged in PVP in Eve Online. There's nothing that sucks more than losing that ship you slaved months over to save the money for and skills trained...

Most intense? DOOM II: Hell on Earth on Ultraviolence or Nightmare difficulty.

Rainbow Six always is king when it comes to tension in games. Vegas was no exception, the shotguns scared the freaking crap out of me. As for the most intense moment, it was another Ubi game, GRAW, when you are defending the Mexican President, and they cued in the orchestra, wow that was a really crazy part.

I totally agree with Planeforger. When I saw the title to this topic, Call of Cthuhlu: Dark Corners of the Earth was the first game that came to mind.

A little ways into the game when you're running for your life, that has to be the most intense part of any game that I've ever played. They way it was all set up made you constantly feel like you were maybe a half step ahead of the bad guys and that any mis-step would be your downfall....now I want to go play the game again.

So far I would say the final Russian scene in CoD 1. The music and the mood just fit right into the intensity you know? But I'm sure there are other games better than that.

Most intense.....

I would not say it was COD because it was intense then was a fall back (rise then fall of action)

COH was intense but was hard to notice in gameplay because it was an RTS.
So I think the best is BIA (Brothers in Arms RTH30 and EIB)
They were the most realistic and the people you care about then just die....makes you cry lol

Brothers in Arms definitely takes a place here. Road to Hill 30 and Earned in Blood were so unbelievably intense.

Rainbow Six Vegas was also really intense, with some of the craziest firefights I've seen.

And obviously, Call of Duty 2 takes the cake here. The Russian campaign is surprisingly intense. Modern Warfares 1 and 2 are also really intense, especially when playing the Captain Price mission on Veteran.

Devil May Cry 3 was also really intense on the harder levels.

Allied Assault's opening omaha beach landing was AWESOME.

Halo had many, many, many intense firefights although they really went overboard on Legendary.

Swat 4. /thread.

I swear every mission plays out like this, we bust down some doors throw in some flashbangs and rush in, there's guys with body armor, gas masks, and hostages, everyone is screaming telling the suspects to drop their weapon and sure enough I hear Gerard yell, "Suspect refusing to comply!" then gunshots, then a barrage of gunfire. "Talk, this is entry team, officer down, Gerard's been hit" Rarely do I complete a mission where Gerard makes it through.

I remember a mission in Men of War were you needed to quickly take down these British tanks on an air field before these German planes landed, it was pretty damn intense as you could hear the planes quickly approaching.

Cod 2 and 4 stand out as being very intense.

Towards the end of the American campaign in CoD2 when you land on the beach at Normandy and get shell shock, then having to climb up the cliff, going over the top to a mass of bullets whizzing by forcing you to take cover in the trenches.

CoD 4, the level on the ship when it gets hit by a missile and starts sinking, Captain Price "On your feet soldier! We.. are..leaving!" and having the ship coming down around you i was literally screaming in awe at my computer screen.

Also the graveyard level of Half Life 2 scared the poop out of me.
