Very interesting! I'd doubt this type of thing will go for less than 20 grand. This would be crazy to play games on or for artists to create works and such. Amazing what the tech can do today...

Doesn't really seem like it would be good for pc gaming

And because once its released everyone will buy it no matter what even if microsofts slogan is with every purchase we kill babies! http://www.microsuck.com/content/whatsbad.shtml

This is the most up to date version of this technology I have seen, and needless to say I am quite impressed. When prototypes where shown off in California a year or so ago I was very skeptical, but now I want that machine. I want it very badly.

I think I read something from yahoo that it will cost 5000-10000 grand.

Maybe if they had these guys working on vista instead of this touch screen thing Vista would have lived up to the expectations :(

They've been working on this for quite awhile now....Not too sure what's so *secret* about it.   Gates has shown bits and pieces of it during the last 3yrs of CES.    It's definitely looking more polished these days, but it's going to be at least a few more years until it hits the mainstream market.

no its not really practical, but in the same sense, 2000 dollar gaming computers arent very practical either... Dont you just love our spend-all random materialistic society :D

OK it may not seem practical right now, but in about 10-15 years when more companies can make this, this will be huge and cheap (like PCs nowadays)

Anyone seen the video linked in the comments? The one of the touch screen tech by Jeff Han. It looks far superior to this one.

Here it is:

That's pretty amazing. Although be warned, that's the only model we will see as Microsoft has patented the actual touchscreen technology, what it does, and how it does it, thus shutting out everyone else. This means we can kiss competition  and lower prices goodbye. They talked about this recently on a couple of twit.tv's podcast, secutiy now and the twit podcasts to be exact.

Have you watched the video I linked? That technology is just as good if not better, it is also cheaper and can be made to work with any type of existing screens.

I saw the same type of thing in a tech demo about a year or so ago and I thought to myself "Wow that is amazing too bad it will never go public." Never thought that Microsoft would be the one to do it. Anyway, it will still be a niche product but oh how I wish I had one to dev on.

For cell phones/PDAs ect Microsoft is most likely planning on using Bluetooth to transmit data.   I believe it was last years CES when they raised the concept of using such a product inside your kitchen as well.   The idea would be to have RFID tags inside of the groceries so it could automatically tell what you put on the table....At that point it would list some recipes for the ingredients you have via the interweb :)
