Action RPG with guns and "tech powers" (magic). There are some moral choices that carry on to the sequel. About a 25 hour game.
Its a third-person action-role playing game hybrid.
there is no online mode
Basically, you and two party members (you can choose from a variety of crew to make up your party) travel around the galaxy to various solar systems, accomplishing missions.
Combat is done through a variety of methods, the majority of which either fall into combat (shooting stuff), tech attacks (overloading a robot's system), and biotics (kinda like magic, only focused on physics manipulation, i.e. pushing things, making them float, etc).
There are six classes: soldier, which is just shooting stuff; and engineer, which is focused on tech stuff; biotic, which is focused on biotics stuff; soldier-tech hybrid; soldier-biotic hybrid, and tech-biotic hybrid.
So essentially you can play the game any way you like, as at least one member of your party will have a strength and a weakness, but the other party members can make up for it.
Mass Effect is known for both an engaging story, and amazing NPC interaction. There are dozens of hours of recorded dialogue, and you talk to characters in different ways. For example, if youre talking to a guy who is withholding information, you can threaten him, tell him to piss off (and not get the info), flatter him, and more.
It is an excellent game, and any fans of either RPGs or action games, or lovers of both, must buy this. To be quite honest I think any PC gamer should own this game, its a worthy addition to any serious gamer's collectino

It's only 25 hours if you do all the sidequests. It's more like 7-10 hours if you do just the main quest (which is closer to what most people will be doing since after the Citidel there's very few sidequests worth doing).
Anyway, TC, think of it as a cross between KOTOR and Fallout 3. It has the same kind of psuedo-shooter gameplay that Fallout 3 had, but it has the ability trees, classes, party system, and conversation trees as KOTOR.
its part of the very exclusive 'awesome genre' :) a third person shooter/rpg full of both great gameplay and story, a testiment to the dying breed of great single player games

I thought it was a pretty good game, but I agree. It only lasted me maybe 10 hours as well. I was too engrossed in the main story, and it just felt too urgent to be wasting time helping people with trivial tasks.Third person sci-fi rpg.Alright combat and mediocre story, dialogue choices don't effect the game much. But it's a very well presented and polished game, cinematic feel to it.Can't go wrong really,i don't have many praises for it but im probably in the minority.
