Okay well I recently got Mass Effect of the steam Holiday sale and I know my laptop is capabile of playing it but it crashes when I attempt to play it.

Now the work around for this is that on Wndows 7 Pc's you run it as an Administratoron steam or something but I don't understande it's explination of how to do this I've attempted running the overall file as an administrator with no sucess. Is there any way to get it working or a patch on the internet I can't find?

Thanks for help in advance.

Of course they work on Windows 7. If ME2 wasn't compatible with W7, it wouldn't have sold well on PC at all. As for OP's problem, that's very strange. If you could describe the crash a bit more in detail, we might be able to give you a better answer to why it's crashing.

I do know the Steam version of ME1 is extremely unstable. A friend of mine has it, and it constantly crashes while he plays for no reason. I'd actually recommend just getting the regular old boxed version. It has a few audio glitches, but nothing that can't be completely fixed by changing some values in an .ini file.

I had the exact problem for my own laptop (Win7/64bit), and I managed to get it working. However a friend of mine had the same problem, but I couldn't get it working for him. For me I think I had to change the UAC, but what I had to do is copy the directx .dlls from the game files into my system folder then it started because original installation screwed up.

I played through the entire game on Steam with nary a problem. Same for ME2. Possible that your friend's problems stem from a hardware incompatibility. *shrugs*

You need to play with settings a little, otherwise you should play it just fine. Make sure you have adequate system requirements.
