Brothers bday is coming up and he's always moving... wanting to buy him a good laptop because he has like a 2004 laptop hahaha

He wants to play games on his spare time so I want it to be enjoyable so maximizing everything is what I am going for, screen size min is 15"

budget 1000 can go higher IS absolutely need to.

Any suggestions?

iBuyPower is usually a good place to check for good deals on gaming laptops. http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Battalion_101_CZ-12_Gaming_Laptop That laptop is great for gaming and is $950.

A gt540m won't play games at max settings, not even close... not to mention disgusting glossy panels.

The laptop I linked will do just fine. An extra $300 on a gift is a bit ridiculous.

The stock np8130 will do fine, it's like 1180$, even cheaper if you get the -60$ ram promotion, which I also did when I bought mine, I think they just give you 4x2gb sticks instead of 2x4.

The 540m is a pretty weak gpu lol, it won't play games very well.

There is also the G53SW for $1150 + Free shipping,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230027

It's definitely the best bang for buck 15" gaming lappy right now.

No, it has a nasty 15in glossy panel, 6 gigs of ram compared to 8 on the np8130, and gtx 460, the np8130 has the gtx560. Same price too.

I guess that is a pretty good price on the 8130, however, the panel on the G53 is still one of the nicest 1080p glossy panels you can find, so not that bad. And ofc, some ppl prefer glossy over matte since glossy tends to add color depth. I personally like matte better as well, but still, I've seen plenty of ppl prefer glossy. The 560m is a pretty big disappointment, since all it is just a 100mhz faster 460m. The only good thing is that it is on the GF116 architecture, so it will run cooler, though seems to actually have a higher tdp than a 460m still(72w vs 560m's 75w tdp). I guess I can redact the 'best bang for buck' part. But I still posted to show more options, especially since I am not a huge fan of XoticPC after being lied to multiple times and losing money from them over it. So they have nice workers, but they definitely are not the most honest ones. Now if you want a custom laptop, head over to GenTechPC, way, way better at CS, and the owner of the company is very active in customer support and sales. http://www.gentechpc.com/config.asp?config_id=NP8130 Same price as Xotic, and yes you can still get cash discount if asked, as well as you will get a billion times better support.
