I'm a previous World of Warcraft player and I'm looking for an RPG (maybe even a free MMORPG, though I don't think any free MMOs would interest me. They all seem to be based around Asian culture.) that's as similar as possible to WoW. Something where I only have to control 1 character. A single player RPG is preferred, but free MMOs can be listed, too, just make sure you differentiate. =P I just checked out Divinity 2 and its' lagginess totally kills it. Screw that game. =\ Thanks for the help. :)

What does that mean? I played through Divinity 2 - The Dragon Knight Saga and it was a good game IMO. As I understood it the first version, Ego Draconis, was a technical mess but The Dragon Knight Saga is a remake and I had no problems with it. As for other recommendations for single player RPGs besides The Witcher that was already mentioned, check out Risen. It's quite alot more punishing combat wise and you are really weak in the beginning but that's part of the charm. Same goes for Gothic 3. Gothic 2 has gotten praise but I havn't played it myself. Then there's Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 (the first feels quite outdated nowadays though). Both are excellent games though but the combat is based on Dungeons&Dragons pen&paper game so it might not be your cup of tea if you prefer quicker action. As for free MMORPGs that aren't asian style, check out Lord of the Rings Online, Runes of Magic and Allods Online (the two later mentioned are very WoW like).

WoW player I've talked to sya Runes of Magic is very similar to WoW. It's a free MMO with cash shop. Lord of the Rings online is good too. Also free, with microtransactions that I personally think are handled a lot better than in Runes.

A couple of non-asian free MMO's you can check out are: Lord of the Rings Online, Anarchy Online (old sci-fi MMORPG) and DC Online is just going F2P now as well, so you can also get your comic RPG on!

If you're looking for something similar in world, characters and atmosphere to Warcraft I can recommend you these:

-Fable

-Might and Magic series

-Legend: Hand of God

-Venetica

-Elder Scrolls series (especially Morrowind)

-Dawn of Magic

-Two Worlds

Hope you like it. If don't, I can always find more. I played a lot of RPGs so there won't be any problem (if your requirements aren't too high).

I had read before trying D2 that it has some laggy gameplay. I thought, I'll try it anyway. And truth be told, it does have laggy gameplay. Even at the lowest settings. I'm not on a super computer or anything, far from it, but for a game that's a few years old, being laggy on the lowest settings... I can't cope. =\

To everyone who has replied: I'll check out your recommendations for RPGs and MMOs over the next few days. I'll report back on my findings. :)

Similar games to World of Warcraft that are good with a large community are Allods Online and Runes of Magic

You can check mmohut.com's list to pick a good free mmo game, it's a great site for information regardings these games. As for RPGs in which you'll only control one character i recommend:

Gothic 2: Gold Edition (original plus the 'Night of The Raven' expansion)

Gothic 3 (with the community patch)

Risen

Divine Divinity

The Witcher 1

You should post your PC specs since you mentioned its not that good.

The witcher 1 and the witcher 2 are awesome.

the witcher 1 is a bit dated visually and there is some occationally less than stellar voice acting but the game is still awesome. great story. it starts slow, but once you get into the second chapter it picks up.

The witcher 2 is even better. Best RPG this get possibly. really great, just make sure your pc can run it.

Those specs are pretty outdated (other than the SSD part). You're going to have a difficult time playing many newer games. By the way, Divinity 2 came out just last year (it isn't a few years old), so that could be why it has run worse than you expected. In fact, I don't think you would get very good performance out of Oblivion on that system, and it came out in 2006. My recommendation to you would be to play some of the golden oldies that you may have missed in the past. Let me contribute a list that might be a good place to start.

Gothic 2 Gold - You could also try the first Gothic too, but you have to be more patient with the controls and visuals. The Gold edition of Gothic 2 includes the NOTR expansion, however, it also ramps up the difficulty considerably. If you're like me and eventually get sick of dying constantly, you should google the Gothic 2 difficulty editor and change it to easy (which sets it to the same difficulty as Gothi 2 originally had).

Arcanum - Make sure to snag some fan made patches if you go with this one to fix bugs and help with screen resolution. A vastly under-rated RPG with tons of replay value. It's in the mold of the first two Fallout games (and if you have not played Fallout 1 and 2, they would be great additions to this list as well, although they may feel dated to some).

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - I have only briefly played this game, but it comes very highly regarded amongst RPG enthusiasts. Make sure to pick up fan made patches for this one as well if you want to avoid bugs and have the best possible experience.

Neverwinter Nights - This game with mods should provide tons of hours of entertainment. Find a gold edition that comes with the expansions as well.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Find this one bundled with the Throne of Bhaal. A true classic in the genre that can easily provide well over 100 hours of gameplay on the original game alone. You can also do some pretty cool things with this game now days. In fact, if you have the first Baldur's Gate with its expansion, you can set up the Big World Trilogy which can add tons of user made mods, and combines the two games into one huge (and I mean HUGE) game experience. If you get sucked in, this could fill every ounce of your spare time. I would caution, however, that it takes some considerable time to get this set up and some technical know-how. If you don't want to bother, jump right into BG 2 and enjoy.

Sacred - If you enjoy hack and slash action rpg's, this could be up your alley. It also provides a gigantic open world to explore. This is a great game to play over a local area network as it will allow you to and your friends to explore the world together.

Divine Divinity - Another hack and slash action rpg in an open world. This is the first in the series of games which you tried jumping into by playing Divinity 2. If you haven't tried this one, it is an interesting title if you can get past the expansive first dungeon, which is full of interesting characters and things to do.

My computer before this one was horrible. When I got this one I was able to play games I never could before. From early 2008 to late 2010, I was able to play anything I wanted to, at least on the lowest settings, which was okay. Late 2010 is when i started encountering games where the lowest settings weren't cutting it either. I've played a few over the past year, but not many. I'm tempted to try The Witcher 2, Sacred 2, and maybe even Skyrim, but I'll probably be disappointed in my computer. X3 Most of those games you listed are much older games, most of which aren't in 3D worlds. Vampire: The Masquerade looks alright, but that's mostly because it's done with the HL2 engine. I'm looking for something to replace my time I spent in World of Warcraft, so I might end up having to go with one of the free MMOs. I suspect some of them may support a wider range of computer specs, as WoW has. With all these MMOs going free to play recently, I'm surprised WoW hasn't, haha. But yeah, anyway, I'm looking for fighting similar to WoW's style, with 3rd person character view and such. I also like the "toony" feel WoW has, rather than the realistic feel most other games seem to have. And I feel like I'm being too picky/blabbering now, so Ima shuddup :D

Well, you can always give it a shot. But, just so you are aware, the minimum requirements for The Witcher 2 are a core duo 2.2 GHz, and a Nvidia 8800 with 512 MB RAM, neither of which you meet. I would expect Skyrim to be similar. You might be able to get away with Sacred 2 on your system, and that should provide you with tons to do. It's a huge game. Morrowind would also work if you have enough patience for it and I think you might be able to get away with Oblivion with some lower settings too, if you haven't played them through already. Each of those games can easily provide you with 100+ hours. Someone else also mentioned Fable, which would be a good one if you haven't tried it (though it's not too long). I probably won't be much help with MMO suggestions since I tend to stay away from them.

If you can scrape together some cash, you could also look into building a new system. You could put something together that would be quite capable of handling any game on at least medium settings for around $300 using parts that are a few years old.

I've played Oblivion a bit. It ran alright.

I'm hoping Sacred 2 will run okay because it reminds me of WoW in many ways and looks really fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTTXtfl4sC8

Sacred 2 runs well enough on the lowest settings. It reminds me of WoW/Diablo 2 so far. Leaning more towards Diablo 2 unfortunatly, but that's okay. I liked Diablo 2. Hate click to move though :\

The text size in this game REALLY pisses me off :\ Suuuuper smaaaaal

Dungeons and Dragons Online is good, but incredibly unforgiving if you 'built' your character wrong. There's also almost no support for solo-play, as enemies will rip you apart in no time without backup.

Insert vitriolic argument against your opinion here, citing such faults as terrible AI, flaccid character building, and a generic plot that inspires hatred towards the people you're supposed to 'save'. So boring.

I'd re-suggest the Gothic series (start with the first; it's clunky but so much fun) and The Witcher. Both run well on my crappy laptop with its turdly Intel onboard graphics. Witcher would have to be turned down very low, but it still doesn't look completely terrible and is a lot of fun :)

Dragon Knight Saga was meh, IMO. Generic atmosphere, does little to draw you in. Its predecessor Divine Divinity is much better in terms of gameplay. It's also about $6 on GOG, and is a beautiful hybrid of, like, Diablo and Morrowind if that make any sense.
