Hey guys! Can you suggest any modern rouglike games. Till know I have failed to find any at all. An ideal example of a rouglike game for me would be something like Azure Dreams on Playstation 1. I also enjoyed Binding of Isac and Rouge Legacy. It is important for me that even after dying you there is some sort of progress - for example, you get to keep your money, pets, new characters open etc.

You can also suggest decent dungeon crawlers like Torchlight.

I really like "Sword of the Stars: The Pit Gold". It does have the ability to save progress through an item saving feature and discovered recipes. I find it to be really fun and refined.

Unepic says its influenced by roguelike games. The demo is pretty long so you could try it to see if you like it (your progress is saved; if you buy the full game you keep going from where you ended the demo). I liked it.

Volgarr the Viking might be another one. I think its more supposed to take after just older sidescrolling games in general though. Its got challenging but fair difficulty. When your character dies, you get sent back to the beginning of the area.

Both of those are the type that you do a little planning before you move so you don't lose.

I share your thirst for games like this remind me of the good old days I loved both Rogue legacy and Binding of Issac

but my new addiction recently has been a title i passed up back in the day

Faster Than Light (FTL)

http://www.gamespot.com/ftl-faster-than-light/

It got igns #9 PC game of the decade

http://me.ign.com/en/feature/15626/the-top-25-pc-games-of-the-decade/4

It's a lot more strategic than any other rogue like i've ever played it might not look mindblowing at face value but, trust me play it. It truely is.

If you don't mind something really difficult, SLASH'EM (Nethack) is a good choice. Plenty of attention to detail in that game.

Also I just checked the Steam Sale... Teleglitch: DME is an option for the community vote! Get out there and vote... game may look sketchy but I promise you it is solid with tons of fun. Best survival horror Ive played in a long time.
