I'm kind of pleased with the delay. It was previously due out in October, along with Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Project Origin. Four huge games all in the same month? No thanks - that's just too much, even for me.
With L4D being pushed back to November and Porject Origin slipping into '09, October will be much smoother. But the bigger problem now is that Left 4 Dead is releasing a week after Mirror's Edge and a week before Grand Theft Auto 4.

Indeed October was shaping up to be "the" month of the year for gaming, you know that month where you find yourself eating crumbs because you spent all you're money on games. But its to be expected that Valve would delay the game, they do it with most of their games.
GTA4 and Mirror's Edge along with L4D, thats a nice combination of games right there.
