Should last you 4-5 years of gaming especially if you overclock that i7 if it starts struggling with games( which i dont think that is gonna happen any time soon) probably you are gonna need to put more ram later

thats good to here i do plan on overclocking i didn't get buy an extra cooling fan yet as i figured at stock speeds it will still be a big upgrade from my 5600+ and a small overclock to say 3-3.2 GHZ should still be possible. looks like im set for several years :D

Nice!

Only thing you'd really need is an aftermarket cooler for overclocking whenever you're wanting to. More RAM won't hurt, but if you're not using 64-bit you're ok.

Seriously though, it's fine where it's at right now. :D Congrats!

Either way i would have gotten a better cooling fan since the one intel puts with its processors dont do a very good job( maybe its just me since my Q6600 was getting 80C with the intel fan while with an aftermarket never went over 65C). Besides an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro is only 30 and is much better than the intel

i would get an aftermarketcooler but im already over budget as it is. i will defintly get a new cooler in the future when i need to.

and the stock cooler cant be that bad surely a 3ghz-3.2ghz overclock is feasible with it?

I've heard some doing it, but it really depends on the case/airflow too. I couldn't tell ya from experience though, don't have it. ;)

well the case i bought has 3 80mm fans so the air flow shouldn't be that bad and i believe i will be able to add an extra 2 80mm in the front if necessary.

4-5 yeas is pushing it.

The longest a single CPU has lasted for me is about 3 years. i7 won't be any different from Core2Duo, which has only been around for about 3 years (and even the best Core2Duo 3 years ago can barely handle current gen GPUs). I think it was intels' strategy to "Double" performance every 2 years or something along those lines.

I'd give that machine 2-3 years max. 3 years if you really stick with it.

I haven't been on an i7 computer, but it should be a huge boost for applications. You might not see a huge FPS increase, but applications will load much faster.

I'd like to know why you chose MSI motherboard over some of the more popular brands such as Asus, Evga, Xfx, etc. Was it price? A bios? Mobo features? I don't know much about MSI. Everything else looks great, couldn't ask for a better system really. I'd guess 3 years before you need to upgrade. Each year computer tech snowballs that much more. In 3 years I bet we'll see significantly faster speeds than the i7's, the software to make use of it though may lag behind.

go with 6 gigs for ram for better future proofing your system, plus better performance in games

personally i bought that same board for price and the fact it has 6 memory slots while the gigabyte model which cost 40 dollars more only had 4. if price had been less of an issue the evga 132 looks pretty sweet.

Hey, good things come to those who wait. Which is why I'm sticking with DX9 until DX11 is released ;)

I'm actually waiting for second gen DX11 cards. Upgrading every year or two just seems like a waste of money to me.... I can max out every game in DX9 mode, so I'm definitely not getting a DX10 card...

It is kind of a waste but you can minimize the wasted money by reselling the old card on craigslist. Ive done this for many yrs now, i end up recouping atleast 45-50% back towards my next gen vid card purchase. in 3 yrs ive gone from a 7800GT (sold@ 45% cost)> 8800GT (sold@50% cost) > GTX260 Sold@ new price) > GTX260 Maxcore OC (used to stepup to 295)> GTX295

Don't worry about a cooling fan unless you plan to overclock a lot. I'm at 3.35Ghz on stock fan and its running just fine.
