Looks like they went for less power instead of more performance, which is cool since most people don't really need anything better than C2Q.

Hey are these the 3D transistor chips? Anyway it's nice to see Intels progress not being slowed due to lack of competition.

Will be making recommending machines and building a little trickier. I'll probably still keep using Sandy Bridge Dual Cores. Will probably be faster than the "T" version i5 anyway.

yes, Ivy bridge use 3D transistor technology. I hope you can overclock to 5Ghz on air. That will be so awsome lol.

Sorta-kinda. Ivy is a "tick" in Intel's "tick-tock" strategy, which means it's a process shrink of Sandy Bridge (which was a "tock", an all-new architecture manufactured on the prior tick's process) with the odd tweak to the design. So it's not like they just said "screw performance, we're just going to worry about power consumption" -- the power savings over Sandy are just a byproduct of their development strategy.

Only one dual core?gmaster456

As it says, these are just the i5s and consumer i7s. Dual core i3s will come later.

Any predictions on pricing and performance increase over SB yet? I was just about to finally upgrade from my c2q q9550, I am literally going to go buy z68/ddr3/2500k tomorrow, but will Ivy bridge be enough of an improvement over SB to wait? I doubt I won't burn through the money wating till April though...

Also, as I haven't been really keeping track of things in hardware for a while, will Ivy Bridge be 1155 or will Intel shove a new socket down our throats again?

Ivy's 1155, and most guesses put the performance increase over SNB at ~5-10% (although it should have significantly more OC'ing headroom). Definitely not worth waiting for.

If you only use it for gaming then I5 2500K will do the job for about 2-3 more years and Ivy Bridge will comes to 1155 and LGA2011.

Ivy Bridge = 1155

Ivy Bridge-E = LGA2011.
