Don't spend so much. My dad got a 42 inch 720p last year from Walmart for about 700.

Quite the contrary, you should spend a little more, if you're already spending that much, might as well get something a little more worth your while.

who said anything about spending an extra 1000 dollars? My point is with tv's like this you're already spending a premium, but if you dont spend enough, you're kind of wasting your dollars.

You can see a difference with a better TV that happens to do 1080p yes i beleive so. But 1080p isnt the only part of it, it's also about quality processing, and while there are 720p televisions that are said to still look better than 1080p televisions, this aint one of them.

I'm in the same boat you are. Looking to buy a HDTV TODAY!!!! Hopefully.

Look at the Samsung LN-T4061F and the LN-T4065F.

The 61 series has the typical LCD screen, non reflective. The 65 series has a clear screan and 15000:1 contrast ratio as compared to 10000:1 on the 61 series. This probably being the case because of the non reflective screen and the clear screen. Best Buy is ripping people off too. Look at Circuit City for the 61 series, they're cheaper. They don't sale the 65 series. No idea where you are, but look at BrandsMart USA(ga or fla only) Or even Fry's. Which is where I'm going today. $1099 for the 61 series and $1299 for the 65 series. I'm getting the 65 hopefully.

Oh yeah, both 1080P!

Anyone have these sets, if so, any feedback, negatives and positives.

Dirk13

Yet it was ranked best panel by Consumer Reports.

BTW I have the 4053, pretty much the same TV except a slightly higher contrast ratio and hidden speakers and the only 40" TV I saw thatbeat it was the Sony panel which was 300 dollars more. Sorry you just wont find many TV's right now that will beat the SAmmy for PQ and price for $1000.

To the threadstarter, dont waste money on an offbrand to get a cheap 1080p or just to save money, I have tried that route and in the end you will just have headaches. Samsungs are a premium brand along with Sony(which BTW their panels are made by Sammy(along with some other makers) in a joint venture plant in Korea), SHarp and Panasonic. I dont like Lucky-Goldstar-Phillips(otherwise known as LG).
