Because I have a 8800 GTS 320 mb and 2 gb ram and i don't get good frames rates in Coh Wic and other games. In world in conflict i get an average 12 FPS and coh 20FPS .I get slowdowns in every game :(

Yeah, that would do it. You might see some halfway decent performance in multithreaded games, but most of your games are only running on one core.

Who knows, but if you were to upgrade your CPU, your video card would be the bottleneck, which is exactly what you aim for with a gaming machine. You'd likely be running it just as well as any other 8800 GTS owners, but that really will be seen when we find out how much of a CPU hog Crysis is. Far Cry was mostly graphics intensive, but did put the CPU through a good workout with its (then) advanced AI.

I think you should run it on high in dx10, although there has bbeen talk of dx10 cards needing 512mb of ram but we will find out in a week.

what's wrong with your english, yours is fine and I've seen way worse. anyways I would just get a E6750. the E6850/Q6600 is more for people with extra cash.

Make sure your motherboard supports it before spending money on a Core 2. Most Pentium D motherboards didn't, even with a firmware upgrade.

I upgraded from Pentium D 945 to a E6750 and their was quite a performance increase see my blog for the 3D mark comparisons I made.

No love for Q6600?!?!?

Anyways Crysis supports quad core so if your planning to upgrade then Q6600 is for you..

WHy are the Pentium D's so bad if they're dual core?

Old, outdated inefficient architecture. The Netburst microarchitecture allowed Intel to have high clock speeds, but poor efficiency and the processors ran very hot/consumed lots of power. AMD's K8 architecture (basically the Athlon 64s and variants) was significantly better, and Intel replied with the Core architecture.. which is overall a good bit better than K8.

Dual-Core is not a guarunteed boost in performance since it really relies on parallel programming which is not always possible, and never 100% efficient. The Pentium D is the much outdated (and much despised) NetBurst architecture of the Pentium 4 (the name sends chills down my spine) which toward the end of its life, was a more effective space heater and energy-bill-jacker-upper than it was a processor. Not to say they were particularly awful chips, they just produced more heat and cost a heck of a lot more than an Athlon 64 in the Pentium 4's case, and the Athlon X2 in the Pentium D's case. My primary PC has a 3.2GHz P4 in it and it works just fine. Oh, and they were much slower.

The real problem is bottlenecking. Obviously, your computer is only as fast as its slowest part. Putting a GeForce 8800 GTS in a machine with a Pentium D CPU is like putting square wheels on a Ferrari. You've got all the horsepower in the world going into those wheels but they won't turn very fast.

If we lived in a multi-threaded world, the performance would be a lot better. However, since most games are only running on one of those cores, which isn't any faster than 3.8GHz, it's like using a single-core Pentium 4. To put this into perspective, my Pentium 4 3.2GHz Prescott machine has a GeForce 6800 GT, and in many games I see CPU bottlenecking. The GeForce 8800 GTS is probably four times faster than my GeForce 6800 GT. I'm sure anyone can see just how much of a bottleneck running a GeForce 8800 with a Pentium D at the helm is a big problem.

Wow thanks allot I really needed to know that, it makes sense now. I like the example with the Ferrari and square wheels..anyways is it possible for your RAM to become a bottleneck? I got 2GB of 533MHz RAM..will that bottleneckmy 8800GTS 320MB? I plan on getting an Core2Duo E6550..and maybe sell my Pentium D 820 CPU on ebay.

Like everyone said, be sure that your mobo supports it. Go quad if you can afford it. I had an E6600 (which is waiting in the wings for some RAM to reborn into a secondary gaming box) and went to a Q6700 and the speed difference was quite noticeable.

i get 6000 in 3D mark with the cpu OC @ 2.9 GHZ from 2.66 GHZ

This is my mobo http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ConRoe1333-DVI/H%20R2.0 i doesn't support quad core but I think it supports 1333 FSB.My Pentium D has 800 FSB .

Wil the CPU affect ram speed ?Because I have 533 mhz and it runs at 296 OC ed

Wow, that's really awful. Worse than I thought. If I remember correctly, that chip has a clockspeed of 2.6GHz and a 533MHz FSB. You're going to notice a huge performance difference with a Core 2 Duo.

Nope. Once again, you're going to want to tiple-check to make sure your motherboard supports not only the Core 2 Duo, but the exact model you're going to buy.
