Is my CPU (AMD 64 3000+@1.8GHz) is a bottleneck for my GPU (8600GT 512mb DDR2) ?

As I have mentioned my CPU is AMD athlon 64 3000+ AM2(1.8GHz) and my GPU is ZOTAC 8600GT 512mb DDR2. I have observed 100% CPUutilizationwhenever I play games no matter whether it is QUAKE 3 or FAR CRY 2. Is my CPU is a serious bottleneck for my GPU ?

Expecting some good/satisfying replies regarding this. If yes upto AMD athlon 64 X2 6000+(3.0GHz) what will be a perfect combination for my GPU?

Thank YOU in advance.

I would get the X2 6000 just because your mobo might not support the 7750 and for the most part the 7750 and x2 6000's perormance is about the same.

no the 7750 is better because it uses less power and has a 2mb cache the 6000 only has 1mb at 3.0ghz but if your MB supports the 7750 you should buy it becuase its only like $5 dollers more but I doubt brcause its using a 3000

CPU is bad old single core athlon 64 3000+. The GPU is 8600GT 512MB.. very low end card by todays standard. I think you would be best to think about a whole computer upgrade. Both are weak products for a game like FarCry2. Though they should walk thorugh quake3or doom3 Quake4 Halflife2 with ease. So you may have some kind of software/drvier problem too.

But if he's getting the older X2 6000 they have 2mb cache, what Ive been reading about the newer X2's with the L3 cache, they dont give any noticeable performance over normal X2's without L3 cache. The newer X2 6000 is 3ghz with 1mb cache while the 7750 have 1mb of L2 and 2mb of L3 but is clocked at 2.7 Ghz.

Ithink that you will see more performance if you upgrade to a new card maybe an HD4850 or a 9800GTX+
