connection speed? My slow internet speeds are really starting to irritate me, and I've tried everything but connecting my computer straight to the cable modem and seeing if that makes it faster, but I want to do that as a last resort since I'd have to move my entire PC setup to the room where the cable modem is. Does anyone know if changing some security settings on the router might make it faster?

Disable all the firewalls and do a speedtest, it can be set too tightly, where every packet is throughly inspected by the router, hindering performance.

Tecnically possible but i don't think any consumer router offers that level of security.

Yes, put AES over 9000, and it will slow your connection down.

No, no ,no. It's the other way round, most consumer routers are equipped whith a bare minimum of processing power, any computational task they do will slow them down.

How fast should your connection be, and how is your PC connected to the router?

I can almost guarantee you it's a problem with your ISP and not your router.
