Until you hear about significant performance increases then I would hold off buying it for PC - if you must, buy it for console, because even the higher end PCs have struggled with the game.

If you wanna play GTAIV then you want to have a 3Ghz quad with a graphics card the same as or better than the 9800GT!

Since patch 1.2 the game has had a nice little performance boost for me but even still with my rig at 1440x900 with all details very high except view distance at 32 i will still get slow down when there is alot going on. So if your PC is as slow as your saying i would say hold off or get it on console like biggest_loser suggested.

Do not buy it man! The pc version needs a very good machine and even then its not working for everybody! But the game is worth buying if you have good PC!

More people have been having performance issues with Saints Row 2 on the PC than GTA4 so dont be sending him down that route :P But apparantly the newest patch like GTA4 has giving it a big increase in performance.

Wats yur processor? The game should still let u play it though if u have a Core 2 chip. Quad recommended. I ran the game on a X58 board with a 920 oc'd to 3.4ghz on a 4870x2 and it ran like hot poo. This is prior to patch 2 though so it might have gotten better

Q6600 @ 3.2ghz 4gb ram 4870 512mb gpu w/ vista 64bit... Seems to run fine. Only thing i hate about it is the rendering glitches on slopes. And I can't set rendering on high :P

Hmm, I actually just bought GTA IV because of the Steam weekend sale, but I haven't played it yet as I am still downloading it (can only download at certain times as it bogs down my connection when DL'ing). I have a Core 2 Duo E6750 @ 2.66GHz, 2GB RAM and an 8800GT. I don't really care about maxing the game out, but will I be able to run it smoothly at decent settings?

If you have less than a quad core and worse than a 8800 series gpu, don't bother. If you do, get it, and you'll enjoy playing it. Mostly.

I've been enjoying GTA IV a lot. I've had very few glitches. But, a high-end pc is a must for this game...as others have stated. If your pc can run it, you'll probably have some fun. The music is great. The humor is also great as well...some of the commercials are pretty funny and a lot of the dialogue with npcs is humorous as well. Another cool thing is that you can listen to your own music in the game...if you have the program scan the music files you place within the GTA IV user file, you will be able to listen to them while driving around and killing random prostitutes. ;)

GTA4 is best on console due to how well it runs. PC version is a hassle, so i recommend not getting it until all problems have been fixed.

U should be ok with the Q6600 @ 3.2ghz. But again I havent played the game since they dropped the first patch so dont take my advice too hard. First time I ran it without the patch its sucked the h3ll outta my cpu. 80% + usage??? On a quad???? Are u mad??? The first patch I noticed they made the gpu stress the load more and not the cpu but eeeeeks! I was getting slow downs and it was really really bad during the intro. Tearing especially. Maybe there was a reason Lucas Arts never made a pc verision of Forced Unleahed. Euphoria engine seems to not like pcs. Thats extremely wierd though. Eh. Maybe its Rockstars fault for their coding who knows. I'll try the game with the new patch band report back.

I have problems with my songs, I feel like i'll never listen to the one I want in that moment. About GTA IV, well, lots of people find it very fun, it's kinda funny, but the best thing of GTA IV is the stuntin' .

I'm running it at 1680x1050 with 15-25FPS (60 indoors) and it plays fine, except for a "you have run out of video memory" error/crash.

I have to say yeah, get it, if you have the hardware.
