I absolutely have to know wether these parts are compatible and good!

  • gigabyte GA-EX5-UD5(SLI and crossfire!)
  • HAF 932 case
  • An intel I7 920 (i've heard it overclocks very very easily. like easily to 4 gigahertz. imagine: a 4 gigahertz i7... FRICKEN SWEET!)
  • A powecolor 4870x2.
  • 4gb of 1600mhz ddr3 corsair ram
  • A BDUX10S blu ray and other stuff reader.
  • 1TB sata 7200rpm 32mb cache hard drive

Plus an e2200hd, windows xp and any old mouse and keyboard I happen to have lying around the house. I plan to use winxp til 7 comes out.

So i have to know:

  1. Are all these parts compatible?
  2. Are all these parts good quality?
  3. What's a good powerbox for all this stuff?
  4. Whatis the next card that is more powerful than the 4870x2 and when's that card released?
I MUST HAVE ANSWERS!!!

i7 computers like to have their RAM in sets of 3, so either go down to 3, or upgrade to 6. However 6 gigs of ddr3 RAM is quite expensive. BTW I suggest you go vista 64-bit, and not xp 64-bit.

yep, get either 3 or 6 gb 's of ddr3 or it wont be in triple channel and itl ruin the bandwidtch, and dont even think youl EVER get close to 4 ghz on a i7 920, not even on watercooling, you dont even have a CPU cooler -.- get a thermalright ultra 120 extreme or IFX-14 with an ultra kaze 3000 fan or a couple of silverstone FM121 's in push / pull config, only way for 4 ghz on an i7 is on a 965 extreme

Erm. Actually, no offense, but where did this holier-than-thou attitude of "lol u cant do that!" come from? Do you have a Core i7 920? Have you tried to overclock it? I talked my mum through overclocking a Core i7 920 to 4.0GHz stable on an ASUS P6T Deluxe and an ASUS Rampage II Extreme. My mum. She doesn't even know what BIOS means.

Also, for the original poster - definitely 3GB or 6GB of triple-channel DDR3 (3GB will run games and whatever fine, to be honest) and get a Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme on that CPU! Akasa Nero is good too, not quite as good as the Thermalright, but costs about half the price, so it's up to you. :)

Are you done having your lil rant at nothing? Yea go for 64bit Vista to be able to use the 4GB of RAM Ive got no knowledge of the i7 so Good for you, the more the better :-) Just make sure you got a good brand PSU / Power supply and the case allows everything to fit in nicely Nice build

People! i need to know if all these parts are compatible! and what's an ideal powerbox? (how many watts? etc.) And i don't plan on overclocking it that high. I was just thinking 3.2 gigahertz.

THE RAM ARE NOT Everthing else it is read what i said :D only the ram are low quality cause they not mean to run at 1.65V but 1.9V with the cas latency so if you want ram that run fine on X58 you need a triple channel KIT and there one that kickass and will make you in no need of ram for a long long time The 3x2GB 1600mhz 8-8-8-24 G-skill with Effifanct heatsink spreader for 250$ with Free shipping to ur Location http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231238

so to you'r 4 Quesition first : ram are not so good cause they are dual channel optimized instead of triple channel that afect the gaming
ram under 1600mhz are bad on Core i7 for general performances
Second The Part are all compatible
Third the best video card is release 9th january as 295GTX : Which is bascily a new GX2 (that will replace the 9800gX2) Btw the Card is basicly Two 260GTX 216 Core 55nm shrinked instead of 65nm gpu that is said to kill 4870x2
so it will be the best video card and it will run well on one of those 3 motherboard
the best is Asus P6T deluxe it does support SLI as well as iv heard and Crossfire X and perform in everyway good

And ur 4th question a really Longlifespawn for both overclocking & Multi gpu user a 1000wats else pick a 750-850 wats will do the job with a Core i7 Which is a really huge consuming devicewith a motherboard from gigabyte / or Asus you could easly overclock ur cpu to around 4ghz with a 3.6Ghz qpi with 1600mhz DDR3
So if you can't do it as you get the pc that not so bad. you will do it later when you fell you like to get real gaming experiance
if you doesn't overclock it you will end up having low fps in gaming compare to if it was look the benchmark
