i want to buy a new PC but i can only really strech to £650 ($1300?). i'll be using it for all round use really, gameing, music homework etc. what do you suggest? I would like to get a Dell or an HP, mabye a Sony but there usually too expensive. what do you suggest?Joe_Crow
I personally have never cared much for Dell. They cram so much into thier tiny computer towers, you don't really have any room to upgrade/improve your computer if you feel the need.
As for HP; my family has probably gone through 6 different PCs from HP over the past 10-12 years and we have never come across any problems with them and the customer service, if we ever needed to call, was actually helpful.
As for Sony....you might actually be paying more just because of the name.
There are spots online you could check out as well: ibuypower.com, cyberpowerpc.com, alienware.com and many more (just do a search). I know you can contact these places by phone and talk with the computer techs and they can see about helping you decide what you need in your PC based on your personal preferances and on how much you are able to afford to spend.
I had a computer built from an online spot and it was mainly meant for gaming (and built with the possiblity that I might want to upgrade components in the future), but I can basically use it for anything else that I have the need for. My PC only cost me about $1100 and I got it a year ago. I have no problem playing new games on it and I shouldn't have any problems until everything switches over to Vista and DX10 (which will eventually happen, but not for a good year or two).
I would use the buyer support from the websites one of the earlier posters mentioned (ibuypower.com, etc.). What you need to focus on is, in order (for gaming): 1. CPU 2. Video Card 3. Software (MS Works/Vista, cheapest versions will be sufficient for basic needs, and they can be upgraded)) 4. Upgrade Slots.
Get a good CPU, and a good video card, and you should be set for gaming (except maybe for the RAM, but that can almost always be upgraded), especially if you leave space for upgrade slots.
I buy all my stuff from MWave, try these links, gives you options on your budget:
for laptops
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/deptnb.hmx?
for desktops
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/subcomputers.hmx?
or just make sure you have a Dual Core 1.8 & up, 1gb RAM & up, 256mb video card & up
The above suggestions are all great, but I would argue that Dell's generic models of computers are pretty decent for all-around use. They also tend to generally include a monitor and other discounts, so you might want to check them out. However, an HP computer sounds like it might be your best bet - just make sure to shop around first. Check places like Best Buy, Sam's Club (you can occasionally find some amazing deals on some mid-range systems), and of course the good old Internet.
I am guesing you live in england?
Well I dnt know many PC web sites in UK mostly USA ones even though I live in South Africa!
I would reccomend atleast a Core 2 duo E6400 || Gigabyte 965P-0DS3 || 8800GTS/X2900XT || 1.5 - 2 Gigs or DDR667 || 250 Gig SATAII HDD || try get those in your PC for a good all rounf gaming/work/ ect experience!
IMO try not to go Dell Alienware or Sony thy tend to Over change :)
the problem is ur budget, ~1300 will give a good computer from any of those vendors but with a crappy video card like 7300/x1300, that is not good enough for todays gamingMehfuz
I beg to differ. You can get a decent computer with a pretty dang good video card for his price range....please see below:
On ibuypower.com here is what I've come up with for $1225.00
Case:Eagletech Sidewinder Gaming Tower Case w/420W Power Supply Silver/Black 2-Tone
Power Supply:NZXT PF-500 500 Watt Power Supply
Memory:1GB (512MBx2) DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair-Value or Major Brand
CPU:AMD AthlonTM64 X2 4200+ Dual-Core CPU
Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT 256MB w/DVI + TV Out Video
Hard Drive:160 GB HARD DRIVE
16x CD/DVD Drive (Optional)
CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive (two cd/dvd drives, incase you need to copy CD/DVDs)
Sound Card:Creative Lab Sound Blaster X-Fi ExtremeGamer (Optional)
Speakers:Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Speakers + Subwoofer (Optional)
Basic mouse and key board (both optional)
Motherboard:GigaByte GA-M55SLI-S4 nForce4 SLI chipset w/7.1 Audio
Operating System:Vista Home Basic + 60 days free trial with MS Office 2007
Additional Software:MS Office 2007 Basic Edition (priced at $159. you might be able to find it cheaper on NewEgg.com or tigerdirect.com or possibly some other location)
With this rig you can easily play any current games, you can upgrade to dual video cards for SLI configuration, you are setup with Vista so this means you can always purchase a DX10 video card (any good DX10 video card right now is pretty expensive, wait a year or two for the prices to drop) and play DX10 based games (there aren't really any DX10 games out yet...give them a few years before they become the norm).
If you already have a speaker system, you can save $79 and if you don't need a mouse or key board you can save another $8 and if you're ok with just using the on-board sound you can save $94. You could also just opt to only have the CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive and drop the other one, saving you $18. So, it just depends on what you prefer. I figured I would show a rig that is near your max price, but also allow options for things you may want to keep or remove.
