My sibling is moving out so I am getting the room. So I figure I'll just turn it into the entertainment room. I NEED a new TV. I play on a SDTV and plan to upgrade. I am not really up to date with TVs so I need some recommendations. My budget for the Television is about 600 dollars. I'd also like for it to be 32' or higher 1080p and get optimal image. I heard that if you get a 32' 1080p you don't get optimal image, is this true? What TV do you recommend to me?!

Don't buy RCA anything. No matter the specs a cheap Tv is a cheap Tv. In the 32' range 1080p is a waste of money. Go with 720p. I'd look into a Samsung or Sony.(even LG) Just don't be in a hurry, "wait for sales" (TRUST ME) or purchase from a reputable internet retailer. Don't look into the specs... look into the Tv.

1080p is pointless at 32", unless you plan on sitting 2 feet away. Just go with 720p.

You don't need 1080P. anything under 40 inches doesn't matter. so save a few bucks and get a nice 32 inch 720p

my recommendation is go with quality over size. stick with Samsung or LG, panasonic is another good brand. Checkout sites like newegg.com , you'll get more bang for your buck than even walmart.

for gaming youll want a fast refresh rate and for over all picture quality, contrast is just as important as resolution, if not more so at the size you're looking at.

here is a chart for viewing distance and whether its worth it to go 1080p.

A month ago, I bought a panny L37S1 37" 1080p for $745.00 - great tv. Last week, i bought a panny L32X1 32" 720p for $479.00 - great tv. Microcenter still lists it at that price. I love the L37. Slightly better PQ than the L32. But, for the money the L32X1 is a really, very, nice, plug and play LCD. Sears is selling a TC-P42X1 42" Plasma for $599.00. i do not trust Plasmas at this point. They need 120 hours of breakin, and then you need to change the settings ( some of which are in the Service Menu, screw that up and you void the warranty) Even for the slightly better PQ of a plasma, I do not need the hassle. I play games on both Panny LCDs, with an original Xbox and a PS3. No smearing, no motion blur, no green phosphorus trails. HD thru Comcast looks great. Blu-ray looks great. Upconverted DVDs look superb.

Definitely not RCA and you don't need 1080p. Panasonic for $480 would be great. $600 for a 42" plasma is a NO BRAINER. Disregard false misconceptions-basically if you don't run the TV's at full brightness/contrast, you should have no issues with plasma and they produce better blacks and no motion blur which is more than can be said for most LCD's at your price level. If you go "off-brand" I'd stick with Vizio and buy it on a credit card like Visa or Master Card which doubles the 1 year warranty to 2 years.

I love the irony there, since you said definitely not an RCA...

Check Walmart. I think you can get a 42 inch 720p Panasonic Plasma TV for $599.00. Great price on a great tv.

I believe RCA farms out production of their LCD's and Plasma's. RCA's track history in TV's is a matter of record and have been one of the more trouble prone sets out there. Once Thomson bought teh RCA/GE brand they prgressively lost market share and quality and have become a footnote in TV history (kind of like Poloroid). That being said, you really don't know how these TV's will turn out as they are not really made by RCA. I believe they are only sold at Wal-Mart and are manuyfacturered by "TTE Corporation." At the same or similiar price, I would definityly NOT buy RCA over a Panasonic, Samsung, Toshiba or some other well known brand.
