i want to know what it can do, but im pretty hardware illiterate. Using crysis as a benchmark, how well can it perform? Or can it even run it?

Specs:

2.8GHz Intel Core i5

2560 by 1440 res

8 gb memory

1TB hard drive

8x double layer superdrive

ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1 GB

Thanks in advance, appreciate it.

What you should do is get ethier get rid of the MAC OS and put on Windows 7 or do a dual boot with both. Because Boot Camp runs Windows slower then normal and their arent to many games that are Mac ready. But the system is pretty good it will play most games on high settings but at that resolution the card will struggle with some games.

Get a copy of windows and install it through Bootcamp and you'll get the same gaming performance as a windows machine. You should be able to run most games on High aside from the Obvious like GTA4, Crysis and Metro 2033 which you'll have to put on medium. Other than that it should be pretty solid. You'll also want to scale down the resolution to 1080p in games

We talking about the computer or the OS? Cause if it's the OS, the reasons are blindingly obvious.

Well, alot of steam games are on both PC and Mac OS. Soooo. The hardware there is all fine for gaming, yet wildly overpriced for no reason, and people say MS is bad. Alot of newer games are being ported or made for mac like Starcraft 2 and Team Fortress 2. So I dont really see where your coming from. I do hate macs though, they make everything so strange in their UI to me, even more strange then Gnomes UI. PC is better though just because it is and always will be until linux of FreeBSD become widely used and actually worth it for day to day use.

OS wise Windows blows Mac OS away for gaming, mainly because of overall support. Apple hardware is way overpriced, so if you're buying a Mac for gaming then you're wasting too much money.

Wow. This topic reads of blind fanboyism... Why would Windows run slower in Boot Camp than on an equivilent pc? You do realise that Mac OSX doesn't run in the background or something while running Windows through Boot Camp... Boot Camp is a clean windows install. Its windows. No difference in performance...

They are a bit more expensive than PC games, but thats only because there isn't the same market for them:

With Windows it'll be a pretty solid gaming laptop/PC. Some steam games are OS X compatible so with certain games you won't even need Windows.

You must be loving that resolution haha. Unfortunately, you'll have to scale the resolution down for a lot of games as another poster mentioned, but it should run pretty solid.
