I mean check is out, We are getting 8800GTS for $300.....$50 less the a 1950XTX.
The 8600 Ultra and GT are next month, looking great at under $200, They are topping out 7950GTs at this price with 64 shaders, 500Mhz Core, 1400Mhz Memory, 512 VRAM all for under $200. Remembr prices should drop on the 8800 series too with the 8900 series with a unlocked/overclock G80 in it. Nvidia has gone CRAZY.

As for ATI and  the R600, We have yet to see a final pciture even, not even benchmarks, and overall nothing. I mean just today they say it MIGHT be water cooled. I am guessing a  price point of $500-$700 remember ATI is more pricey the Nvidia. The thing is a HUGE too, I am sure $100 to get a new bigger mobo and case is out the the question. I am sorry the card is missing value

I am sorry, I would rather get SLI 8600 Ultras then get a R600 that will give me the same performance for more $$$$

I agree. Nvidia certainly have increased pressure on ATI/AMD with G80. Even the specs for the 8300 look promising at under $80 ! Fantastic value, and if those specs are correct, the 8600 and 8900 cards will be really popular.

Yeah, with a budget like mine, and pretty much no income, a 8300 gt looks sorta tempting :)

I am 15, And sure I have the usual under 18, Extremely restricted job where you can only work like.....15 hours a week. I find it great that I can afford a high-end GPU with saving like mad.

Same here. I'm 16 and I work at PC World in the UK, and it's great that GPU prices have fallen so much.

1. 3rd Party companies can do the watercooling if they want too. Uber Editions theyre called and will be clocked higher, much higher then the stock 750ghz.

2. the GTX is bigger then the retail version of the XTX. GTX is 10.5" and XTX retail is 9.5". OEM version will be 12".

3. Prices can be higher, considering on paper, the XTX beats the GTX. Im sure benchmarks will be the same. After the XTX and XTX2, the cards will be on par with nVidia. Dont think AMD is not gonna be bringing there competitive pricing with them. They already held back ATI from softlaunching the card, which was ATIs biggest problem. The cards will all be on par with eachother, maybe not close off the bat, cause nVidia will doa price drop to mess around with AMD sales. But they will drop soon after launch, except the top cards. Until nvidia releases a 8900 series that can compete with it.

4. nVidia can do lower prices cause they launched a long time ago, where ATI has been working on this card longer just for Vista, not a pre- Vista release.

5. 8600Ultras in SLI will not be the power of a XTX or XTX2. The Ultra will roughly be around the power of 7900gt. The GTX is more powerful then 2 x 7900gtx in SLI. The XTX supposed to be faster then a GTX. Also remember, the 8600Ultra is a rumor card. It hasnt shown up on price lists.

I highly doubt there will be a 512mb nvidia card for under $200.
It will most likely be 256mb at the most for nvidia's midrange.

Plus I was going to say everything 9mm said, so make sure you read his post.

I agree w/ the topic creator. I've been using Nvidia chips since I had a Riva 128 back in '97. The Geforce Go 7950 GTX I got in my new laptop is just amazing.

Its a shame then that nVidias drivers for Vista are absolute crap, I have already decided to go back to ATI once the R600's are out.

If this is true, then the 8000 series is not comparably the the 7000 series itn meaning of shaders and clock speeds?

3D gaming performance is extremely slow and sluggish, but it should be ok in about a month or so... probably just in time to try and spoil the R600's release.

Gaming is slow - and the photo gallery refuses to work for some reason (it cause the GPU to output corrupt video).

Thats not the only issue, many with 7900 series and some other series get a garbled screen from sleep or the screen saver, sometimes in games it will just randomly start garbling the image. I am personally forced to go with a low end nVidia card until they fix this issue, my 7900GT KO + vista= big time head aches.

I was just giving you an idea of where the Ultra would be in terms of performance. Rumor is the GT will score around 4500 and well since the Ultra is still a rumor card, it would be near a 7950

Why? I'm using the 64bit version and the only issue i have is the sluggish 3D gaming performance (using a 7800GTX)
