I am helping a friend upgrade his computer (he is completely computer illiterate) he has a AMD sempron 3400. How far can we upgrade him on that kind of socket type. Is it possible that I could upgrade him to like a 4200+ dual core processor?

Probably so. Do you know if he has a Socket 939 or an AM2 motherboard?

If he has an AM2 socket, he can get the x2 6000 for only $76 with free shipping from Newegg.roulettethedog

That's a great deal. Do that!

You should double check your mb. Just because you have an am2 doesn't mean you can use any am2 cpu...

Im going to see what kind of mobo he has today. I would have guess AM2 by the sounds of things, but I'm going to see here in a bit. By the way, the AMD 6000 is for me not him. :) I dont think he needs something like that, but if i could just give him a boost from the sluggishness his computer is at now, it would be great.
