That CPU will bottleneck even 7xxx series Geforce. You need to get a better processor before you upgrade your graphics card.

I would suggest getting a better processor. Maybe an AMD X2 6400 and get a 8800 gt. I have a 8800 gts 320mb with an AMD X2 3800 and every time there is something involving physics in crysis the FPS drops into the low single digits on all medium settings at 1680x1050.

You should consider a better processor as well. I ran @ 1440x900 with a E8400 with that same 8800GTS 320mb for a while and it never got below 80FPS in the most intense firefights. And I was playing everything max- post processing intense, world/texture 5

the amd quad core processors arent quite as far as the intel quads have come in my opinion, obviously its a waste to switch to intel with that setup but i would just go with like a 6400+ x2 black edition if you want performance, they are cheaper than the amd quads to at new egg only 10 bucks cheaper but 1 gig faster

agreed, even a 4200x2 bottlenecks 8800gt pretty serverly, so you will want something in the range of amd 5000x2 or better or in e6400 or better if you are thinking of getting a 9 series.

but really the 9 series are all just 8 series. 8800gt>9600gt but not by much, both are great cards, it just depends how much you wana spend

cpu is defently important. I went from a 4200x2 to a e8200 and crysis now runs close to 2x as fast with the same gpu
