Well, I give up. I am tired of this horrible performance, and I just want to clear my hdd and startover! How do I go about doing this?

I already backed up my music, saved games, etc., and I have all my discs to reinstall drivers. I just want to start new.

Re-boot with your OS in the drive, follow directions.

If I were you, I'd defrag before you wipe.

Yes, it will erase and create a new partition. And then after that's all said and done, it will start installing the OS again and move onto the drivers.

Why would you defrag a drive you're about to wipe clean and start over with? The partition table is going to be deleted and recreated anyways, so wouldn't that be an unnecessary step?

What I meant was defrag it and see how it performs. If it doesn't help, then wipe it clean and start fresh.

You will probably have to go into the BIOS and select the CD drive as the first boot device. Then just restart your computer with the the OS disc in the drive. The rest should be as easy as following the directions.

Okay, I went into the bios and set the boot device to my DVD drive, but it just starts up normally. I redid it, made sure I save, etc., but nothing works. Does it matter that my drive is connected via USB?

I think my BIOS has a "boot from usb" option. Look trough your BIOS and see if you see anything similar
