I'm moving all the parts from my Dell XPS 420 (apart from mobo and CPU cooler) over to my new case, an antec 900. I dont want to fry anything, so i was wondering how much the PSU in the XPS 420 is capable of.

Thanks in advance!

If all you're changing is the case, you don't need to worry about the power supply. The extra ~5w generated by the fans in the Nine Hundred will not overload your power supply. That being said, the power supply information should be on a sticker on the side of the case.

The XPS 420 ships with either a 375 or 425W PSU. 3 months ago I chucked a GTX 260 Core 216 in my 420 (425W PSU) and I also overclocked my Quad Core Q6600 to 3.0GHz and it's been running without issue since then. So unless you're thinking about powering a GTX 280, 4850X2, 4870X2, etc you will not be frying anything.

Ok, I'm changing mobo too, so i can OC. i didn't want to fry it, so i thought I'd ask here.

EDIT: I guess i should add i have the 425W PSU (i had seen the sticker already, buy I've heard it's capable of more than what it says)

If you've got a 1066MHz processor you can apply a BSEL mod (if your processor supports it) and you'll have no need to buy a new mainboard. I did this on mine to get my 2.4 GHz Quad running at 3.0. Anywho good luck with whatever you do. :)

already got the parts, and i cant really afford to mess up a modding attempt. Turns out the damn 420 PSU doesent fit in the Antec 900, even if it did, the mobo power-connector is too short. *facepalm* anyone got any cheap but good PSUs that fit in the Antec 900, and have cables long enough to get around on a P5Q mobo?

My Q6600 mod was putting a single piece of electrical tape over a single pin on the CPU. This changes the FSB from 1066 to 1333MHz.

The Antec Truepower Trio 430w is around $40 right now, and it's not too bad.

Thanks for the tip, but i went with the Corsair TX650W, that way i wont need a new PSU when i decide to get a new graphics card. I've heard good things about it too. My only prob now is that i have to wait another 3-4 days before i can get my pc back in operating condition...
