There's a pretty nice deal for the card at $80 Canadian. I'm debating between this card and a 5750, which costs a good $50 or so more. Just wondering if the difference in performance would be worth the cost. I play at 1920x1080 resolution, so I'm rather worried that the 4850's 512 mb ram would be holding my performance back quite a bit, compared to the 5750's 1 gb.

Here's the link to the 4850:

the hd 4850 isnt actually half bad but considering your resolution id actually wait save up a bit more and nab a nice hd 5770 or 5830 which are MUCH better gpu`s at that reoslution.

I use an HD 4850. It powers games pretty well still, but I also game at 1440x900. At your resolution you will probably want to start looking at cards with more vRam.

Thanks for the replies guys. I know that the 5770 would be absolutely perfect for me, but I'm not sure if I want to slap down $180 w/tax on a video card. I'll certainly think about it though. Again, appreciate the suggestions :)

The HD 5770 has been reduced to about 150$ on newegg though.

I have a Sapphire HD4870 1024mb myself and it runs just fine even at said resolution. But from what I see in the comments I guess you might need a bit more vram to handle said resolution of your desire. I'd say if it's not too long of a period try saving up for better. It's not like you "Need" to game right away is it. I'd say save up for better.

got a 4850 512mb, and i love it. plays all the console ports at full settings at 1680x1050. dead space, borderlands, COD4 and MW2 are silky smooth with all settings up full (this was even on my core 2 duo e6400, now on i7 930)

I've been using a 4850 with a 1080p monitor. Ideally, I'd say you want to be aiming at a slightly higher card with 1GB video memory, so the 5750. Although, if the 4850 is really attractive to you because of the deal, then don't overlook it. I've been playing dirt 2 (maxed) and just cause 2 (few random not that important settings turned off) just fine.

haha.. this is funny. my 4850 pooped on me a couple weeks ago.. and I got a 5770 from bestbuy at a wopping 134$! + tax and stuff :).. i've come to learn newegg sometimes doesn't have the best deals anymore :O btw.. the 5770 runs way cooler than the 4850 considering it has a smaller chip size. but the card itself takes two pcie slots instead of my old 4850 which took 1 :( .. buh! it's good imo!

Getting a HD5750 for $140 to outdo the just as strong $80 HD4850, this is really one crappy idea!

The resolutions/settings where the 512mb HD4850 have trouble with the HD5750 1GB would also have trouble with as they both have to week GPU's to make a real diffrence on the 512mb diffrence between them!

Anything below HD5770 isn't a smart move.

If you have a motherboard that supports it crossfire 4850's makes a pretty beast setup at a low price.

If you are willing to give more money like others said go for the 5770 The 5750 isnt that much powerfull than a 4850 and with most games a nowdays even at your resolution a 4850 is enough if you are willing to sacrifice AA

Just for anyone who cares, I went ahead and got myself an XFX 5770. I originally wasn't going to spend this much on a new video card replacement, but the 4850 was sold out. And I figured since I was spending over budget already, I might as well push a little further and get the 5770 that's much faster than the 5750.

Anyway, thanks again for the replies!
