I just purchased a new GIGABYTE GV-N98XPZL-1GH GeForce 9800 GTX+ 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card and I haven't really heard about anyone who has been experiencing issue with this card overheating. The card has an huge fan on it and most says the card runs very cool for them. When just having my PC on the card it getting up to temperatures such as 60-65c. I noticed when I was playing Crysis yesterday that my card was getting up to 83-88c. Now I have a fairly new set and there is no dust or anything that would be block airflow. I'm not sure why this card is running so hot. Does about have any suggestions on how I could lower the temperatures?

the best fix for that I guess is to stick an new cooler on it. perhaps the cooler that came with the card does not cool the GDDR, a good aftermarket cooler i would recommend is the ZALMAN VF1000

The problem could be that the fan on the card isn't running fast enough. Many cards don't come with the right bios settings to run the fan high enough to cool it. For example, my card fan was locked at 37% when I got it. I downloaded Rivatuner and used it to lock my fan at 70%. It made a difference of about 10-12 degrees celcius.

i have the same card it has a really good fan on it. those temps are odd. no dangerous, but a bit to high. it may be you just dont have good airflow in your case.

download rivatuner and change the fan speed to around 50% or more.

my temps with that card- playing crysis warhead 54c fan speed 52%

idle 43c

fear 46c

oblivion 49c

mass effect 52c

i dont have any other fans in my computer. idk why it just stays cool.

Sounds more like poor case ventilation. You've got a HP case, right? Upgrade to a cheap, well built third party case like the Cooler Master CM690, Lian Li PC 60 and etc...

ahh didnt see you had hp. umm thats your prob most likely.

those cards are rated pretty high for heat. but if u want them lower you can get a cheap case on newegg. also go for some fans. or buy an after market cooler.

AH Thanks!!! I downloaded the Rivatuner and realized that my fan speed was already set at a 100%. So I figured it was my case. I purchased a Antec 900 gaming case and it lower my idle temp to about 39c and when I'm playing a game its about 45-55c. Thats a major drop in temps.

Those temperatures are safe for a GPU, they can safely run at 100oc!
