Horrible quality and colors off when using 1080p

So I'm using my LG 42LG70 42" tv as my monitor and before I had it set to 1600 x 1200 and everything looks great. But everytime I try and change my resolution to 1920 x 1080 the quality is horrible. The colors are off, its waay to bright at times, whites hurt my eyes and everything is pretty blurry. Videos are also pretty bad as they are really dark or the color saturation is off as well. I have an HD 6850 video card and have played around with every single option on catalyst control center and it still is very off. The only way to get my desktop running and looking crisp is to set my resolution back to 1600 x 1200. Anyone have any ideas how I can get things to look as crisp as when it's at 1600 x 1200? Oo and my games run fantastically so this is only a problem when I'm on my desktop
