help with External display

Hey guys, my old laptop screen was broken recently. It's an acer travelmate7720.

just something for my bedroom when our communal pc is busy, i have had it connected to my television twice before with no problems, using a variety of fn+ f buttons. i don't know what order or what i pressed. and since my battery went flat i'm getting "no signal" and no matter what forum i browse and what combination of fn+ f buttons i press, it isn't connecting to my television,..

Right now i am running it in safe mode, and it's connected. but obviously i can't change the resolution, and it looks shocking. and isn't fit to the screen.

if anyone could help me out with what the proper code or a way for this laptop to only boot to an external monitor i would be happy camper indeed.
