So normally I would be able to put something together myself, but I've really out of the loop for the last full year. I'm starting college soon, and I'd like to play games on a pc obviously if possible, but budget is a problem. I have parts from my old pc, which i could possibly use in this one as well.

P5Q pro Mobo

CorsairTX 750w PSU

22 inch monitor

G9 mouse and keyboard

zalman 9500 cpu cooler

ati 4850

nowobviously, the gpu has to be replaced, but is there any mileage left at all in a p45 mobo?q6600 cpus are easily found on ebay for under 80pounds sterling.... and maybe if I coupled that with a sexy new gpu? plus a case and ram....

the main reason for this pc would be The Witcher2. i don't expect to play it onultra, but on high maybe? I have about 500 pounds max (the less the better)I couldput towards this pc, no more.Any advice would be great

thanks guys

I can show you the build that I just assembled on newegg. I plan on buying it soon and it should be able to play most games at max, besides a few graphic intensive ones. The price right now is about $680 USD (not sure what that is in pounds) without monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Interested?

Looks like you are only around 426 pounds if I converted it correctly. You could use that to upgrade a couple things or just take it as it is. Now I haven't bought it yet, but I am pretty sure that it all should work together. But make sure to double check the components again just in case.

The power supply can stay, but be sure to test it properly so it doesn't bottleneck any other components. The monitor, mouse, keyboard, and cpu cooler can stay obviously. You didn't list a CPU or specific brand that you want to use (AMD or Intel) so I'm just going to give you an AMD build since they're much cheaper than intel. Getting a powerful rig for 500 dollars is hard, you're looking at least 600 if you buy all the parts new. Also you didnt mention if you had an OS, so i'm going to assume you dont. This motherboard is kinda pricey but it's almost future proof. ASUS M488T-V Evo, you can order one off newegg.com for about 115.00 US, sometimes newegg will discount these on the weekends for 10 dollars less but dont hope on it, its random. CPU, you can either invest into a dual-quad for about 30 dollars less or you can invest into a quad-core which will be effective for gaming for now so it's future-proof for a couple of more years until games start using 6 cores more. I'm going to suggest the AMD Phenom II 955BE Quad core CPU for future proofing. For dual-core, I believe its an AMD phenom II 555BE x2. You can get the quad off newegg.com for 115.00 or the dual for 90.00 US. RAM, is a pretty easy decision. I'm just going to suggest, G.Skill RIPJAWS 4GBx2. Again on newegg.com its about 50.00 US dollars. You've spent about 280 dollars so far, assuming you bought the quad. 250 if you bought the dual. Now, for hte case.. The HAF 912 is about 60.00 dollars and its a pretty good case, actually a really good case for the money.. So youre either at 340 dollars or 310 dollars. So last but not least, the GPU. This is where you can make or break your rig. Me personally, I use a 560TI GTX and I can run any game on ultra. Its pricey though about 275 or more dollars. The GTX 460 is about 200 dollars and you can run again, almost any game on ultra or high depending on the game but the 460 cant compete with the 560 at all. So just like the CPU you can future proof it with the 560 TI or get the 460 for the budget savior. RIG with gtx 560 and Quad = 615 RIG with gtx 460 and Quad = 540 RIG with gtx 560 and Dual = 585 RIG with gtx 460 and Dual = 510 Also if you dont have an operating system that'll be another 100 for windows 7 home pre OEM.

Here are the links incase you're confused about anything that I said. There are a bunch of different brands and types of computer components so to make your life easier, here you are. Also I didn't include the Hard drive or DVD/CD player. Just pick whichever ones you want, they dont affect gaming so i'll leave that up to you. GTX 460 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130571 GTX 560 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130604&cm_re=gtx_560_ti-_-14-130-604-_-Product MOBO - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131668 RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277 Quad-Core - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808 Dual-Core - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846&cm_re=amd_phenom_ii_x2-_-19-103-846-_-Product Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233&Tpk=haf%20912 OS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986&cm_re=windows_7-_-32-116-986-_-Product I also noticed you're not in the united states so I do not know how much these will add up too in your case.

Owning a HD4850 and getting a HD6850 is a bad upgrade in my opinion, that HD4850 still plays the same games the HD6850 does very good.

The 2-4games the HD4850 struggle with the HD6850 does too. (crysis 1, metro 2033 and some other games)

I would just upgade the CPU, RAM and motherboard, perhaps get some new coolers, keep the graphics because it not at all "obvious the GPU has to go" it's still a very capable card.

Wait until HD7xxx and GT600 before you upgrade the graphics.

Ummm no. A 4850 does not have the same performance level of a 6850. Maybe if you crossfired but a single 6850 will def out-perform a single 4850 any day. So upgrading to a 6850 is not a bad upgrade at all. If his mobo has crossfire caps then i'd suggest maybe crossfiring 2 4850s' for cheaper cost than a single 6850 for the same performance level.

Outperform?, please expand that? Because a single HD4850 runs most games near or @ maximum ingames settings all the way up to 1080p, witch is the same settings you would run that HD6850, with that in mind does it really matter if the HD6850 is more powerfull? The few games the HD4850 is to weak the HD6850 also is. (crysis 1, Metro...) I would seriously reccomend waiting for some games to need the extra power before a upgrade. I got a gtx460 @ 935core / 2000mem witch is stronger than HD6850 and I also have a HD4850, i can tell you that they both play the exsact same games with the same settings, yes the gtx460 is stronger but in what game?

i agree with swe hunt on this post, i had two 4850's in crossfire and they were great performers and i still have mine as back up. At 1080p they ran solid.
