I know HD3850 will be faster, but is it worth the extra money ?

I dont really think he asked about the 8800gts
agreed, If he wanted 8800gts he would have asked for it, BTW is 3850 actually faster then 3870? cant be but ill look up benchmarks for myself.[QUOTE="sirpopsalot"][QUOTE="Thinker_145"]8800GTS 512MB is your best bet.TrooperManaic

If you can overclock the 2 3850's safely in CF, it will last you alot longer than a 8800gts. Thinker reconmmends it because it gives him orgasms. If you could get a single slot Atomic 3870, and add a second one over time it would be worth the wait.middito:roll:
For somebody asking whether it is worth to get 2 3850's over a single 3870 must not care about price performance at all.
Also with a single GTS you would get "consistent" performance rather than having to rely on the random performance of crossfire and deal with the other issues as well.

I'd actually agree with thinker. If you want to spend money in the price range of 2 HD3850s in CF then I'd say get an 8800GTS 512mb instead, since they overclock very well and you don't have to worry about the drawbacks of multicard solutions. Considering 2 HD3850s in CF is about as powerful as an 8800GTX, and an 8800GTS is basically on par with an 8800GTX, and can be had for less than 300USD.
A single HD3870 will be a good solution as well.

And i would get the 3870 and upgrade later.

He's an nVidia fanboy, he can't help it. But he has a point, even though the TC never asked about a 8800 GTS.Leave him alone dude. He was just making a recommendation.
I didnt hear him say anything about a dual card setup, anyway if you are spending more then $230 then the 8800GT and beyond should be your card to get but I digress, if you plan on spending WAY over $230 like maybe $400 then the 3870x2 would be good.
I personally dont trust the 3870x2 though because I dont like dual card setups even know its 2 cards smooshed into 1. I believe its a LAZY solution on both nvidia and ati when they make dual GPU graphic cards and I am agenst it. They need to make something like a dual core setup instead of 2 physical gpus that are together as one.
the 3870x2 is more like one card, with two GPU's on the same pcb. the 9800gx2 is more like two physical cards in SLI. i think two GPU's in one card is the future for crossfire/sli. soo much better than 3 or 4 different cards in the same computer.I didnt hear him say anything about a dual card setup, anyway if you are spending more then $230 then the 8800GT and beyond should be your card to get but I digress, if you plan on spending WAY over $230 like maybe $400 then the 3870x2 would be good.

It would probibly be verry hot though, but they are multi millionares they can find a way to cool it.I didnt hear him say anything about a dual card setup, anyway if you are spending more then $230 then the 8800GT and beyond should be your card to get but I digress, if you plan on spending WAY over $230 like maybe $400 then the 3870x2 would be good.
