I must be weird but Skyrim has been sitting on my desk for two weeks and I still haven't installed and played it. Has anyone purchased a game only to not play it for a while? Any particular reason why?

Ive done that! Do it all the time actually. Ill buy something on Steam, download it, back it up, and uninstall it to play later. Ive done that with physical copies too. I think I do it for the sake of being able to reverse the problem if at some time I regret buying the game. Also cuz I want to spend time with it - kind of make it a special ordeal. lol...something like that. Hell, I dont know.

Yeah, say hello to my Steam backlog. Most recently though, the game I'm hesitant to play is Dark Souls. I got past the Asylum Demon at the beginning, his psychopathic blows shattering pots and stone all around me and blasting my ear drums through my headset, and I put the controller down and walked away, vowing never to return to that twisted, twisted game. Even now it taunts me from my living room.

Not new releases I buy day one. Those, I pop open and play right away. Whether I finish it or not is another story. The last game I kinda hesitated to play was Space Marine. Bought it, installed it, but I didn't play it until 4 days after release day.

For any other reasons save for sheer volume of games (Steam Winter Sale), I haven't really had this issue much. The only game I can really say I've done it with was RO2, but I have valid reasons for that.

All the time, 2011 was too good of a gaming year, the amount of games I got is frightening, having them all installed doesn't help my motivation when I try to play one of them and I'm not strong enough to delete some of them :P, I'm currently trying to take it one single game at a time, 3 missions left on Rage.

I got Borderlands and CivCity Rome as gifts from Steam friends during Christmas time.

Took me some two weeks before I started up Borderlands, and have yet to touch CivCity Rome.

Ehm, normally if it's a bargain i got, and purchased just cos it was cheap. If it's a big title, such as skyrim, bf3 or any game i've been lookin to for long time, i'll be installin asap, any other thing can wait :P

Two buddies and I had a cool way of playing that game. We all got on Skype and started at the same time so generally we encountered everything at once, but a couple hours in, we went off on different paths so it was still funny to hear one of ours friends get startled. Haven't played it since, but I think when I do. I'll have to start over.

Heroes of Newerth. Bought it about 1.5 years ago, only tried it about four months ago. I was scared by the stories about the community... ...I should have heeded the warnings.

Yes, like half of my Steam library. I bought them because I had slight interest in them, then went on sale for a price I can't resist.

Most recently for me is Anno 2070

Bought it beacuse I loved 1404 and liked the modern setting but it's one of those games that you have to dedicate long sessions to and I just haven't had time recently :(

There are heaps of other games that I've bought and have not really played... not out of hesitation, just I don't really feel like playing them.

Yea it happens. I bought Medeivell 2: Total Wa ages ago but haven't even installed it.

I've probably done it with other games as well.

I've done it many times actually. I bought The Wither 2 around launch time but I haven't even unwrapped it yet! I guess it's because I don't have that much time to really get into it and I don't want to get too distracted. So I stick to the likes of bf3 for some quick action for the time being...

I got Fallout: New Vegas at release, but I didn't like it as much as Fallout 3, and I still haven't played it. Same thing with Mass Effect 2, though I'll likely end up playing through Mass Effect 2 eventually. Probably on a road trip or something, when I can't play Skyrim...

I have 7 games on Steam right now that I purchased over a month ago and have yet to play any of them. It's not because I'm "hestitating" to try them, it's just that I've been busy and haven't had the time. When I start a brand new game, I like to have a large chunk of time to dedicate to it initially so if I only have a hour or so to play, I'll just boot up something I already know.

No, not unless a fairly interesting game is ultra cheap on Steam. Otherwise, I only buy games when I want to play them.

I do this especially after Steam Xmas Sales. My backlog is massive, and it takes me longer to select a game now that actually play it.
I so wish there was a random button in Steam which I can click that randomly starts a game from my installed list.

If I made a tower of my backlog games, said tower is about 160 cm high, and that is only the hard copy backlog, I dont even want to think about the steam one.

i put off playing quite a few games because i don't have enough time to really get into it. rts games were once one of my favorite genres but now i don't buy them because with the occasional time i play i can never get as good and enjoy them like i once used to. same for rpg's, i need to invest a certain amount of time to get immersed and learn the controls and game mechanics to really enjoy it. if i know i won't be able to free up that time then i won't play it. it just sucks to come back to a game and find you might as well start over cause you half forgot who is who and what does what.

I bought a package with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky and Call Of Pripyat included many months ago, and after playing Pripyat, Clear Sky has been sitting on my shelf ever since. I'll get round to playing it at some point I guess...

Have that problem at Skyrim at the moment, but in regard to returning to it. The writing is so abysmal it almost hurts playing the damn game, thankfully the exploring is solid.

If I get a game, I always make a point of starting it up and checking it out. I'm a huge completionist, so there are very few games I haven't beaten.

Weirdly enough, I LOVE the God of War series, but though I've had the Collection and 3 for a while, I'm still stuck on 2.

Other than that example, I always go through my games, usually as soon as possible.
