Ā

I remember being really bummed out the first time I played Killzone 2 and experienced the ridiculous amount of controller lag. Going from the ultra-tight response of the Call of Duty games to the horrible lag of Killzone 2 was quite an eye opener for me, and it was not cool considering I pretty much purchased a PS3 in anticipation of playing Killzone 2 and the input lag made the game pretty much unplayable for me.

I felt the same way (but to a much lesser degree) with LittleBigPlanet, the controls were not anywhere near tight enough for a platformer, and it needlessly brought the game down a few points in my opinion.

Splinter Cell Double Agent

It is the worst PC port I have ever played. The entire game is also garbage compared to Chaos Theory.

Crysis 2 was pretty depressing for me. I gave Crytek the benefit of the doubt and preordered it. Never preordering again. :P It was a disappointment on every level for me, and it was depressing because I didn't want to have to wait for Crysis 3 to see the next significant step up from Crysis 1. On top of that, I must've been plagued with every technical issue you could have - the game was so buggy it was nigh unplayable.

Few come to my mind. Not depressing as such, but the wasted potential and high hopes, combined with what you actually got... Diablo 3 - An average game on its own I guess, but the fact is, it had the potential to be something epic. Following in the footsteps of the previous games in the series, and failed to deliver in almost all the areas. Yeah, pretty bad. SWTOR - Not bad game as such, but considering how huge the potential was, the lore and all (it is Star Wars, how can you not have stuff to use), it just failed to use that potential. I fell for the Star Wars side of it, I admit, and had fun for quite a few months, but it could have been so much more...

Yea, SWTOR kinda hurt me too from a potential perspective. To me the game didn't fail so much from an execution level, it failed mainly from an idea's level. I remember Ilum PvP, the idea's they incorporated into it moved it from what could have been AMAZING PvP into blatantly stupid wastes of time. Yes...a PvP planet where you only get points by capturing points from the other faction and not actually PvPing...sit back and watch as opposing teams just swap capture points freely just to get points. When they realize this doesn't work, incorporate "Kill X faction" daily quests....really? /siiiiiiiiiigh

Ug..such a shame, again for me not execution, but plain idea's. The idea's that they used to also incorporate into their F2P model...pathetic.

Forgot about Diablo 3. That one certainly is a depressing disappointment. I bought two copies of that damn game to coop with friends, and we barely even played it. I was hoping for PC's first 10/10. :(

I walked in here thinking about emotional engagement in video games' story and characters. Reading into it, you're referring to bad games that make you depressed. :P Lets see, in terms of hype and overall acclaim, games like Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, certain aspects of Dead Space 3, Hitman Absolution did depress me in a sense. I'm a big Dead Space fan, although DS3 was a solid experience, I took it with a grain of salt. In a perfect world, I expected a lot more from Visceral Games. But it looks like EA had much control in creative freedom.

All these newer games are depresing cause you can see their just not good as the great classics. I mean you see all these copies of the classics that really dont deliver and just no fun at all. Assassins creed 3 and halo 4 is the only recent classics I can remember

- RE6 - Not sure why, I wasn't expecting a super amazing game or anything, it was just such a missed opportunity and I just felt so MEH while and after playing it.

- Fallout 3 - I liked some aspects but the story, dialogue and characters dissapointed me so much. Fallout1 and 2 are two of my favorite games and this was like not very good to me as a Fallout game. Thankfully Obsidian did New Vegas and I enjoyed that a ton more.

- Daikatana - Not much to say here, pretty sure everyone knows by now why.

- Dragon Age 2 - Had a blast with Origins, this had some big big issues though for me, starting with all the recycled areas, it got so boring after awhile.

- Ultima VIII: Pagan

- Megaman 4 - Loved Megaman 1-3 but this was the one that kinda changed the series back then

- Force Unleased series

- Postal 2

- Gothic 3 expansion (for get the name, but it was horrid. I liked Gothic3 alot despite its issues, but this expansion pack is oen of the worst ever. It is especially sad because Gothic2 had a great expansion pack years before).

Good point about Fallout series. FO2 (FO1 is great too, but I have played FO2 a lot more) is one of my all time favorites as well, and if compared to FO3 it might be considered a disappointment. I did enjoy it, but purely comparison-wise I can definitely see where you are coming from.

Fallout 3 had some faults, but it was an enjoyable experience overall. New Vegas is a lot better though so that made up for it. :P

Dragon Age 2, despite all the controversy, and I did not like Mike Laidlaw, the combat was pretty satisfying. The combat was visceral, and a bit faster. I know a lot of people didn't like the story but I liked the whole Mage story. Hawk was really lame though. And Varic was hilarious. Yes, I won't forget the repetitive environments but the rest of the game was pretty good. I enjoyed it.

I agree with the rest of your list, especially Daikatana.

Not depressed, but Hitman was my favorite series until Absolution came out. The game was so unbelievably bad that if I had physical copy I would have set it on fire. Really made me mad.

Agree with ya on Dragon Age 2 for the combat, it was good and there was some decent story/character aspects, but the recycled environments really really pissed me off. Brand new missions back in these super small areas that you had already done 2-3 missions at before, that just pissed me right off and totally took me out of the game. Also atleast for me didn't have the replay value that Origins had (beat it 3 times, Dragon Age 2 Ive only been able to beat once so far). I think if they would hav emade new areas and not recycled the same ones for new missions that would have helped alot and same if there was a bit more to the game to as far as amount of missions go (took me 30 hours compared ot 60 for origins to beat).

To start off maybe "depressed" is a bit too harsh of a word, but I thought of this when watching gameplay of the new Walking Dead game. It really hurts me to see how bad a game it is considering theĀ *massive* potential a game in this fiction has. We know Telltale did their adventure game great, but I believe there is a place for a first person shooter version of TWD.

From what I saw there is essentially 0% character development, and everything just screams rushed, which I am sure it was (screw you Activision). A great TWD fps strikes me as a game that will derive so much of its influence from Half Life 2. A 100% fps with amazing character development and wonderful pacing. Has any other game you played let you down for being bad? And I don't really mean "mediocre", but plain horrible. Something that really coulda gone far but landed flat on its face. I really think this ideology applies to roughly every movie game ever made, but TWD for me was just something really special that flatout sucks from this game adaptation.

One game that comes to mind is Mass Effect 3 The game is decent up until you come to earth and then it just goes to hell and it continues downhill until you reach the ending where no matter what you do end up with the A-B-C ending which the developers promised you it wouldn“t be. That game depressed me, the whole team behind Mass Effect 3 depressed me and i still wonder how that last ½ hour of game got approved and someone actually said yes this is cool and we will go this way.

Final Fantasy 13 for me. I had high hopes it wasn't going to bad, oh boy, I was wrong. I was so hyped for that game, in fact, it was the reason I bought a PS3.

Ā

Another one was Syndicate. My hopes weren't high but it saddened me how EA killed a great franchise just for some quick bucks. I'm glad EA couldn't get high profits from this game.

Need For Speed: The Run

Ā

After my friend played it, I decided to buy it so we could play together. Since I grew up from the first game in the series, I have seen of what the franchise has become in later years. They're not even trying anymore. All EA is doing is milking it. There is a huge list of missing elements that the original five games had:

-No useless story mode - Just get in and drive

-Hell, even Single Race mode is gone... WTF

-Each NFS Title (1-V) had its own in-house soundtrack provided by Rom Di Prisco - No licensed music BS

-You could pick out any class car and any track that you wanted to drive on. - Can't do it here.

-Each car had its own showroom page dedicated to its specs, history, and had its own photo gallery.

-You could unlock all cars through single-player if you wanted (Or through cheats) - This game FORCES online multiplayer BS when it comes to unlocking cars. By far the dirtiest move EA has done.

-The only recent titles with in-car cockpit view was Shift & Shift 2.

In short, The Run is nowhere near the quality the first five NFS titles once had.

Verdict: The Run gets a score of no higher than a 4/10 for me.

I'm sure Dragon Age 2 will be high on the list for some people.

BattleSpectre
Is it really that bad? I'm playing Dragon Age: Origins for the first time, though I regret going Warrior and I can't get past the first Revenant, but I'm really enjoying it. It got an 8.5 / 10 and Dragon Age II got a 8 / 10. Can you explain why so many people hate it? Is it overrated, underrated, etc.?

I'm sure Dragon Age 2 will be high on the list for some people.

Recycled enviroments, no real choices, meh story, ninja spawning enemies, the list just keeps going on and on. Origins is much better.

Seconded. DA2 felt so cheap with the reuse of levels and assets plus the whole story felt so constricted to a city.

Assassins Creed 3

Jacanuk

hehe :D Well, but were you surprised that it was going to be a let down after Brotherhood and Revelations

It wasn't bad at first, when you play Haythen Kenway , but later on as I progressed, it just felt so empty. Sure, theres a lot of side missions and stuff but they weren't great. I felt that Brotherhood was something more enjoyable, the city full of life, the story was decent IMO. AC3 just didn't give that assassin feel anymore.

I was really depressed with Diablo 3. I started playing knowing it wasnt anything like D2 but hoping it would at least be fun as a game sitting on its own and it wasnt. It was rewarding, it was visually dull and overall just a let down with the dev team doing very little to give the game any sort of longevity. Other than that theres Alan Wake and Wings of Prey and a game here and there. No others really come to mind at the moment but Ive bought and then sold games because of such a let down.

Star Trek Online - While I do play it, I must say it is MASSIVELY underwhelming. It was expected to be the end all be all, and it was so far off the mark. I am a huge Star Trek fan, and that is the only reason why I endure the experience.

Halo 3 - Inconsistent, poor pacing issue and a story that was absolutely tedious. The online sorta saved it.

Homefront - I was SO excited for this game, and it ended up being so mediocre. Terrible textures, inconsistent online play, and the story was just okay.

Frontlines - Same as Homefront, almost exactly. Just mediocre.

Aliens: Colonial Marines - Alien license, actors from the films = crap. Absolutely garbage. Terrible visuals, a forced story and gameplay that felt like an underwhelming Rollercoaster ride.

On top of that, I must've been plagued with every technical issue you could have - the game was so buggy it was nigh unplayable.KHAndAnime

Crysis 2 was a f*cking disaster. The campaign was ok, but the multiplayer was easily the worst experience I've had gaming in a long, long time.Ā

F.E.A.R. 2. Took my favorite game of all time and turned it into complete sh*t. I can't believe it was made by the same developers. What the hell happened...
