Im in the beggining of the game and im already really scared. Im at the part where im in the underground railroad. You should see my face while I play this game. I even fell out of my seat once because those plant things on the ceiling got me. Does anyone else think this game is scary.

the first time i played it I pooed myself.

It's a very jumpy game, really great atmosphere. Probably one of the more scary games I've played.

Yeah, HL2 sometimes borders on a horror game in certain places (especially Ravenholm which will quickly desensitize you to the rest of the game's creepiness). I remember the first time I played it way back at the start of 2005 and saw one of the corpses in the game (was trekking waist deep in water and bumped into it lol). Up to that point all the corpses I had seen in games were really just the normal character models except laying down and possibly covered with blood. HL2 though went for far more realistic (and disturbing) corpses with convincing tissue necrosis and rot. So when you bumped into a corpse for the first time it wasn't "meh, a dead guy...moving on" but rather "OMG what happened to his ****ing face?!"

Yeah, I also find HL2 to be pretty scary. I haven't even finished it yet. :P
I personally find the first levels where you ride your boat to be pretty scary, it really feels like I'm being chased. :O

The only things I find scary are the fast zombies in Ravenholm. They send me into a sheer blind panic.

Apart from that, I wouldn't say it's a scary game overall.

it's a very tense game. those zombies that stumble about covered in headcrabs used to really get to me. i remember nipping in a toilet in nova prospekt, turning a corner and literally walking into one. i jumped about a foot in the air  awesome stuff 8)

It has some shock value, and some great atmosphere, but I can't really say it was a scary game, some parts were kinda creepy though.

This was a game that was over-hyped (without doubt) but it actually earned SOME of that hype.

It's not a really scary game, but it has it's scary moments.

Like Revanholm or the first time a poison headcrab jumps at you :D

I definitely found parts of it tense, but after playing games like Fatal Frame II and Silent Hill 2, I can't say I find it THAT scary...

In my opinion HL2 was not scary, at least i didn't find any part of it scary. The game I would call scary was Fallout 3 or FEAR.

You're cool.

No you. Call HL 2 what you want but not scary. I assume you'd be scared by something like the action shooter called FEAR?

I consider myself easily scared in horror games (Dead Space anyone? never completed it). But HL2 isnt one. Ravenholm is the only level i thought was a bit scary because of all those darn zombies.

I didn't find that game scary at all. Mostly I just found it boring. Probably the "scariest" game I've played in a while was Penumbra: Overture. (It's not exactly a great game though.)

I first played Half-Life 2 when I was somewhat younger than I am now, and I can categorically say, the Ravenholm level was certainly the most scary gameplay experience I'd had so far up to that point. However, I tend to shy away from Horror games, so this may just be a reflection of that. But Half-Life 2 remains certainly one of the most deeply atmospheric games I've ever played.

The atmosphere and dystopian portrayal of future earth were what scared me in HL2. I recommend you read 1984. :D

Yeah, after buying Dead Space, i became so scared (i'm a coward) that i couldn't pass chapter 2. I decided that i'd never buy a horror game again. 1 week later i bought Resident Evil 5 (but only because i heard that it's more focused on action than in horror)

I found Ravenholm to be absolutely hilarous (In a good way) in my playhtroughs with HL2, lol... Utilizing the Gravity Gun to manipulate the sawblades was also too satisfying against enemy targets.

I'm jumpy, but I didn't find Half Life 2 that scary. I get more scared at the passive stuff (right now I'm taking a break from Morrowind because it's creeping the heck out of me. The Sleepers really bother me for some reason).

Yeah, I think that was the only real problem for me. I was thinking "This isn't so bad..." when they howl and start leaping across buildings.

Also, the first time I ran into those hulking ones and it threw a headcrab at me. Get it off my face! My faaaace!

It's been a while since I played, but I don't recall it being scary. However, the original Half Life made me jump quite a few times. I definitely did not expect that one to be scary. I still remember the part where the two scientists crawl into the vent, then suddenly start screaming and come back out the vent... In pieces.
